Makeup during labor/delivery?

Will you bother with makeup during your labor and delivery?  Just afterwards for pictures?  Not at all?  The works?  I was thinking that I would just go to the hospital with whatever makeup I happened to have on at the time and would spuce up after delivery so that I don't have to look at baby pictures for the next 40 years that I looked like death warmed over.  What will you be doing?

  • I'll probably slap some on before active labor but, that's it.

  • I have pondered this question myself. I will say I distinctly remember a friend who put on a full face of make up for the pictures immediately after her baby was born... it looked weird and obvious in all the pictures. I am being induced on Thursday morning. I will probably just go in with some cover up and mascara on (my norm) and if it stays it stays and if it doesn't oh well. I am bringing basic stuff with me so if I feel like touching up for visitors I may.
  • I didn't wear any make up during labor but even if I had, it wouldn't had stayed on.  I pushed for 2.5 hours and sweated like a beast.  I know people who have much shorter active labors though and come out with their make up looking okay. :)

I personally don't wear make up unless we are going out somewhere or to church, so it didn't bother me too much.

  • I'll put on the bare make essentials after I take my first shower. I did it with my daughter and I don't think I looked bad in pictures at all...even right after I gave birth. I may be a bit vain...but not vain enough to care more about what I look like than about spending time with my new baby. Besides, I didn't even want to get out of bed for at least 2-3 hours after she was born..I was so sick!
  • I plan on washing my face/taking off any make-up before I head to the hospital (if possible). My skin is oily and I don't want to have to worry about washing my face once I get settled in. I might take my travel sized bottle of foundation and some mascara, blush for when we leave. But I don't plan on full on make-up during birth.
  • Probably the same as you...I'll be taking my makeup (powder, eyeliner, lipstick, mascara, shadow, etc) with me to the hospital, and not let anyone take pics of me until I at least put on some powder to cover up my zits! lol...but then again, I might be to preoccupied to put on makeup...who knows?

  • I'm not a huge make-up wearer to begin with but I figure i'm going to be sweaty and feel gross and will want to wash/wipe my face with a washcloth periodically so then what's the point? Plus one of the main reasons I don't wear makeup often is if it's on too long or i get "icky" i'll be rewarded with a shiny new zit the next day. SO that said.... i'm definitely avoiding it. It can wait for pictures.

  • No makeup for me... unless I'm wearing some from the day already.  I am planning a natural birth and will probably look like hell washed over with or without makeup.

  • I will definitely spruce up after l &d this time. I didn't last time because I thought I wouldn't care. Sadly I look sooo bad in those pictures I don't even look at them. I prefer the ones when he was about 3 days old, lol.

Same here. I'm used to wearing make up, though not a lot, it's become a habit. My face feels so fresh after I wash it and put on some light make up. I'll probably do that after labor as well for a refresher.

  • Those that do their makeup before going to the hospital to deliver are slightly ridiculous IMO.

When you are pushing and a breathing hard and moaning and groaning in pain, who cares how your makeup looks? Your going to be sweaty your makeup with end up getting messy anyway. If you are so concerned with the way you look for pics after you give birth, thats a different story. Put your makeup on then.

I guess I'm slightly biased since i'm not a big makeup wearer.

  • I'll probably just get cleaned up by having a shower, fixing my hair a bit, and putting on some light make-up before visitors start coming to the hospital.  I don't care what I look like during the first photos with LO, or during labor/delivery... I figure I'm supposed to look like death considering what I'm going through.

  • I'm going to try to shower when I first start having contractions...maybe I'll take some makeup to the hospital if I think it'll make me feel better.

Of course I can't plan everything b/c I have no idea how I'm going to feel...I'm not going to stress if my makeup is rubbed off and my hair is a grease pit in my pictures.

  • I'm hoping to have enough time to shower and put on some makeup during early labor.  I'll probably touch up later on when we're at the hospital - I'll play it by ear as to exactly when the touch-up occurs.

  • I am taking chapstick and moisturizer.

I'll be wearing my glasses so eye make-up wouldn't really show up in pics and I rarely wear any facial make-up anyway.

  • I'm not a makeup user as it is (only for going out to fancy dinners or for holidays).  Personally, I don't care how I look afterwards.  I think everyone will understand that my body just went through a LOT with having a baby & will give me a pass if I look crappy, lol!  Besides, most people will be looking at the baby, not me ^_^.

This, only I AM a huge make-up wearer thanks to crazy pregnancy acne.  I might put some on for photos though.

  • I figured I'll wash off all my make-up before going to the hospital, and I won't be bringing any to the hospital with me. I don't always wear make-up anyways, though, and it makes me feel extra grubby if I'm doing any kind of hard work or getting sweaty - not how I want to feel while in labor.

  • For my 1st I had the full deal.  Fixed hair and makeup.  Plan to do the same this go round as well.  All of my pics from the hospital I love and i had a horrible labor, but I looked great so I will take what I can get. My mom was there with me and my DH so she kept on top of re-applying for me =)
  • I dunno I guess it just depends on how I feel, where I go into labor at etc etc etc.

  • I have a feeling the last thing I'm going to be concerned about either when I go into labor or the first time I get to hold my LO is "Omg don't take that picture. Here...hold her so I can go spruce up, then you can take those pictures."

  • I plan on showering and shaving during the first stage of labor, so I'll definitely put on at least some makeup after that. If anything, just to make myself feel better. Probably just some mascara, eyeliner, coverup and powder, not everything. I'll definitely be bringing a makeup bag to the hospital and will reapply when it feels necessary after L&D.

  • Would you wear make-up to a marathon? Had I worn make up I would've looked 10 times worse. I pushed for well over 2 hours and my eyes were nearly swollen shut by the end. And I became obsessed with cold wet washcloths on my forehead during pushing, so it all would've just run into my eyes.

If you really need some nice day-of shots, maybe you could just apply some makeup after your post-delivery shower.

  • I have zero interest in wearing any makeup during any point of the process as I look like a crack whore when my makeup runs.  As a pp indicated labor is more like a marathon.

I have a feeling my baby will be so cute no one will focus on how I look in pics. :)

  • i dont do makeupless. not even camping. call me vain but each time I find a second to put on some. it takes 5 minutes and makes me feel so much better - not to mention for the pics.
  • I plan to go to the hospital with whatever I have on my face and before pics throw some lip gloss on at least.

  • A lot of mommies I've spoken to have said that before they go to the hospital they shower, shave and do their hair/makeup. I'm not sure how much of it lasts but I will probably be doing the same thing!
