Allergy relief for pregnant lady - Help

Hi,

My Drs. office said I could take claritin but it is hardly doing anything. If you took something while you were pregnant and it worked please share your secret with me.

I took sudafed 12-hour and it was ok'd by my doctor. Mine had turned into a sinus infection and this helped significantly.

How long have you been on Claritin? Sometimes with daily maintenance allergy medication it can take a week or two of daily use to really become effective.

I am on Zyrtec, but I take it daily year round so I'm not sure how fast-acting it is when you start it in the middle of an allergy season.

This allergy season is particularly bad--even my Zyrtec isn't working 100% for me like it normally does. Not sure if it is because I am pregnant or because the pollen is exceptionally high. Either way, I feel your pain and hope you feel better very soon!

I have a prescription nasal spray, but I also used sudafed and saline spray. Sorry, I know it sucks. My allergies were horrible when I was pregnant!

Last year and now this year I'm taking sudafed (the kind behind the pharmacy counter). Last year at night I took benadryl but with Bailey here its to hard to get up the next morning after taking it. It sucks to have allergies and be pg.

Oh I also use the saline wash twice a day right now. It's the neti pot thing but just in a squirt bottle. Same company makes it.

totally forgot to post about the neti pot. We use it regularly. It really helps with allergies and sinus infections. Totally natural. Love it!!

Yeah, Claritin is doing NOTHING for me these days. I used to use it every allergy season and noticed its effects right away but have been disappointed the last couple of years.

Sudafed has been helping me tremendously. I try not to take it unless necessary. Get the stuff behind the pharmacy counter, not the stuff out front (they are different and there is less research into the effects of the in-front-of-the-counter stuff, which makes me nervous).

I have one of those saline washes as well, which seems to help a bit...as does a humidifier.

You can also take Benadryl, which obviously will make you drowsy, but it's useful if you haven't been able to sleep (like me) because of the crazy allergies.

I took Zyrtec most of my pregnancy and it was ok'd by my OB. Zyrtec has a higher dosage then Claritin and is recommended by my allergist. I also took sudefed when I needed it. The only thing with sudafed is that it is dehydrating so make sure to drink extra water. I also had a prescription nasal inhaler, but I don't remember which one I used while I was pregnant. All of this and Owen came out fine. So if your Ob says its ok to take, I say take it and make yourself feel better. Sorry, allergies suck!

When I was pregnant, I took Claritin-D. Regular Claritin did nothing for me but the D was ok'd by my OB and it worked like a charm. Still does, as long as I remember to take it!

fake sudafed, benadryl, claritin (which you can take 2 x a day...btw)
