Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Why won't my baby sleep?

My LO usually sleeps through the night and takes good naps during the day. Today, however, has been a struggle. He woke up early, only took a 40 minute morning nap (usual is abt 2 hours), napped off and on during errands, screamed for almost an hour before getting a 15 minute evening nap, then struggled to fall asleep tonight. Now he's waking every 15-30 minutes either wimpering or outright screaming. I just gave him some teething tablets to see if that will help. When he's been awake he's just fine, except for this evening when he was so very exhausted.
Does this sound normal for a 5 month old? Would he be going through a growth spurt, or does this sound like teething? What else could be going on, and what can I do to help my poor boy sleep?

Re: Why won't my baby sleep?

  • two days ago, Lilly napped like crap and woke up every 90 minutes through the night...it was awful....it was definitely a growth spurt...thank goodness she is back to her normal self and back to sttn.

So my guess would be growth spurt...but it could definitely also be teething.

  • Hmm. Fay is doing something really similar. Every so often, she just wakes herself up incessantly and can't/won't sleep very long. When it happens, co-sleeping REALLY helps Fay. It's usually just a fluke and doesn't happen more than once in a week or so. I'm not sure what causes it, but I wanted to tell you that it doesn't last! GL until then!
