So tired of the 5am wake up call- can you help?

my son is almost 1....he sleeps from 6 or 630pm until 5 or 530am...pretty much straight through except for maybe one time going in to reinsert the binky..all in all, not bad for an 11 month old except its the wrong 11 hours for most normal people....I don't mind getting up at 6am but 5am is wearing on me and I have to go to bed at 9 to feel ok the next day...if I put him to bed later (first advice everyone gives) he gets up either earlier, or at the same time but cranky...I tried putting him to bed at 5pm just as an experiment (I was told try an earlier bedtime) and he did sleep until 530am but no later. He takes 2 naps (8am and 12pm) each about 90 minutes...he self soothes...everything is good except the too early bedtime and too early wake up....how can I tweak his schedule an hour? I am dreading daylights savings in October!!! TIA

  • Does he have anything in his crib to occupy him?  Right around this age, my DS started doing the same thing.  I know they say nothing in the crib until 1, but I put board books in his crib and he had his Fisher Price Aquarim.  He would sit and play and occupy himself for at least 45 minutes.  Is he waking up and crying, or just waking up and making noise?  I also wouldn't get him until he is really fussing to get up.  I also sometimes go in and tell DS (when it's really early) that it is still "night night time" and he has to go back to sleep.  Sometimes him just knowing I'm still around helps....I don't know, if this doesn't work, hopefully it is just a phase that will end soon!
