Hospital not discharging LO w/o CPR class?

My (single/childless) BIL told me that hospitals will not allow you to take your infant home unless they have proof that you've taken an infant CPR class. Anyone know if this is true? I think it's a good idea, but I doubt that every parent that has had a kid has taken infant CPR class.

I've never heard of this, though it is a clever idea. The only requirement here is a carseat that is properly installed in your vehicle.

Perhaps it is an area thing, but it is not true around here. I am sure highly recommended, but not mandatory.

ahhh ! im so sorry bout that it cut me off or something ! but ive been around enough deliveries that ive never heard of that i dont work in a hospital anymore but when i did they never did anything like that thats really strange.....

We didn't have to do that, but in the state of PA they require that you watch a "Don't Shake Your Baby" video OR sign a waiver that says "I refused to watch the 'Don't Shake Your Baby' video."

never heard of that... its not a 'terrible' idea but its something that should either A) be covered in those parenting classes or

be covered by the hospital or fire dept ect for free to the public bc CPR can be upwards of 60 bucks to get certified and babies are expensive enough wtihout having to worry about not being able to bring ur kid home from teh hospital because u didnt take the CPR course. haha.
