What's the tylenol/motrin rule?

i've heard on here that it works better for pain if you alternate tylenol with motrin for teething (DD has 3 almost cutting today, and she's miserable...poor lil bug).

i put a call into the pedi, but usually don't hear back from them for at least a few hours if it's not urgent. how often can i give each if i'm alternating?

  • I was alternating every 3-4 hours.  DD cut two teeth over the weekend.

  • Our pedi and our friends' pedis say to start with one and give the other 2 hours later.

We try not to do that unless he has a fever, though, because we like to stay as un-medicated as possible. We've done it 3-4 times and it works well.

  • Wait, I'mconfused. Motrin can't be given less then 6 hours apart. How can you alternate such a short time frame?

Just curious, both boys cut 2 teeth this weekend and are MISERABLE. I'd just about do anything to help hem feel better!

I have no clue. We do Motrin and then Tylenol 2 hours later. We haven't followed THAT with another dose of Motrin before. Pedi said it was ok, though. Maybe that was because DS had a fever of 103 and they were more worried about the fever than an overdose.... Not sure.
