Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Afraid of being "that" mom

I feel like I take DS to the pedi way too often. Every time we go because I'm worried, it does turn out to be something (reflux, reaction to meds) so I know I'm not just a total hypochondriac.

We were JUST there last Tuesday for his 2 month appointment- and I am about to call again tomorrow!

In the last 3 days DS has only had 2 bowel movements- and both were diarrhea. He is having plenty of wet diapers, is eating fine, and doesn't seem to be in pain other than crying/fussing before the BM.

If your LO has had diarrhea, what- if anything- did your pedi recommend?

  • There is nothing wrong with being too worried about your baby! I am the exact same way. I am sorry I can't be any help but call your pedi, that's why they are there Big Smile

Btw, Did you feel the earthquake? I know you reside in Ca like myself.

  • I did! I live in Diamond Bar.  DH was just leaving for work and I begged him to stay home because I hate them!
  • My boyfriend was in LA with the baby visiting his family and I stayed home, so I was taking a nap and suddenly I felt my bed move exorcist style (not as bad though) I was "oh man, not again" We had one like 2 weeks ago if I remember correctly. We live in a 3 story townhouse so I can definitely feel those suckers.

I keep telling him we have to move within the next 5 years before the "big one" hits.

  • Seriously, do not worry about calling your pedi too much.  They work with new moms all the time and they get it.  When my DD was a newborn I called like once/week.  Its better to call over nothing than to not call over something, KWIM?
  • Is he still EBF? If so, how is diarrhea different from normal BF poop? It's all pretty runny.

Also, BF babies can go 7-10 days without pooping (DD generally just poops once/week or so) without it being a problem. Certainly call the pedi if you're concerned, but this doesn't sound worrisome to me.

  • I felt the earthquake also.  I'm in Murrieta.

He is EBF. His poop has always been mustard yellow and seedy and rather pasty (not a runny consistency at all). This is completely runny, no seeds and is bright orange. I haven't eaten anything recently that he hasn't already been exposed to.

Any damage down there? You're much close to the epicenter than I am.

  • No damage in Murrieta as far as I know.

That sounds totally normal for an EBF baby.  Sometimes if they get a fore/hindmilk imbalance, it will be more watery.  But don't feel bad calling if you're worried.

Well,I am glad to know it's normal. This is unusual for him and when it was basically orange water with a terrible odor I got concerned.
  • that's just motherly love in the works. =)
