Finger foods for a 9 month old

My DD is 9 months old and really into feeding herself - she's not into anyone helping her. I'm trying to think of some nutritious finger foods she can eat herself...I know about veggies and the like...but does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!!

  • We've done mini silver dollar pancakes which DS tears apart and loves, little pieces of scrambled egg yolk, pita bread pieces, bread pieces, fruit, soft steamed veggies, rice, and DS loves it all!

He still gets most of his nutrition from chuncky purees, but we put something on his tray most meals so that he can practice feeding himself.

Ped told us yesterday that we should also start giving him shredded cheese. so I'm going to pick some up this weekend.

  • re pp: most of DDs nutrition should be coming from BM/formula, not solids As for finger foods, DD hated purees, so pedi said we could try finger foods. She loves it. I don't give 3 full meals a day and she usually only eats 1-2 oz of food at any given sitting to ensure that she's taking enough BM in. We give her pretty much everything except the high allergy foods. She's had avocado, carrot, peas (no skins), green beans, broccoli, zucchini, squash, plums, peaches, nectarines, banana, chicken, turkey, beef, tofu, egg yolk, pasta, toast, mashed potatoes, yams, cottage cheese, shredded cheeses, cream cheese, yogurt, and probably a lot more that I'm not thinking of.
  • We're just starting to introduce finger foods too. DS loves shredded cheese and I bought the Eggo mini-waffles in the freezer section that are easy to give him. You can just pop them in the microwave for a few seconds.
