Mixing Cereal with Solids?

Do you mix cereal with all your solids?  Or just fruit?
Right now, DD has had sweet potatoes (not mixed) and bananas (not mixed).  We tried applesaue last night, but she kept making funny faces, like it was too sweet.  I wonder if we should mix it with cereal?
Thanks!

Re: Mixing Cereal with Solids?

  • I mix most of DD's veggies w/ rice cereal to thicken them up. She doesn't like it runny. I usually mix applesauce w/ oatmeal cereal for the flavor. DD just recently started liking the sweetness of apples and peaches. Before she would make faces and gag.

  • If the constistency is too thin, I'll mix in cereal. Plus, my pedi says it has a lot of iron that babies need, so I make sure I do it at least w/ her fruit in the morning.
  • we usually give half of the container of solids by itself to get DS used to the taste and then if he doesn't care for it too much we mix it with the cereal.  if he likes what he is eating we don't.  we do this too to get him used to mixed flavors.  DH can't even have foods touch on his plate and he eats one thing at a time.  we don't want DS to get into this habit.

  • I put cereal in all of her solids stil... I'm not sure when I'll stop, but she still needs the iron and it softens some of the strong tastes.

  • I think as long as you have tried the cereal on it's own, and she was ok with it, then you can add fruit.  If for some reason she has a reaction, you'd want to know what was causing it.  We add prunes and pears to DD's oatmeal.
