Re: ok - I am going to ask

  • I haven't read the other responses, but I had a scheduled c/s with my DS due to placenta previa, and I LOVED it. I am having another one this time, and never even considered a VBAC.  And honestly, my recovery was much easier and quicker than a lot of my friends who had vaginal births.

I had an emergency c/s with my first pregnancy. My recovery wasn't bad at all..not nearly as terrible as I was expecting! But, everyone's different! I'm having a repeat this time around and other than the fact that I have to have a spinal I'm okay with it! My thoughts are no matter how she makes her grand entrance and no matter what I have to go thru it's totally worth it!

Oh, and I should add...I didn't have to recover with a newborn, so that probably makes a difference. DS was taken strait to the NICU. This time though...it looks as if I'm bringing home a healthy newborn as well as having a 23 month old running around! I *might* have a different opinion on the recovery after this pregnancy!

  • I don't care what other people do -

But for me, I've already had one abdominal surgery during this pregnancy (appendectomy) and it SUCKED.   It was hard to recover - I was nauseous and could barely move and was in a ton of pain.

Recovery from my vaginal birth was so easy compared to the appendectomy.  I was up an walking around within a couple hours and could take a shower the next morning.   I had to wait days after my appendectomy to shower.

  • I'm late to this so I won't say more of what you've read already.  However, I will tell you my personal experience.  I had my daughter vaginally.  I was induced after being at 4cm and had only 7 hours of labor.  She's now 10.

In October, thanks to PCOS and being on the pill, I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst requiring surgery.  It was a dermoid the size of a volleyball so it couldn't be removed via the belly button (including the ovary being removed also), it was a hairline cut.  However, a HUGE cut.  Spent two days in the hospital's maternity ward, a few comments about how it looked like I had a c-section, a bunch of staples, and sent home.  2 days later I was back in the hospital because it was infected.  I then spent 2 more weeks in the hospital, had 2 more surgeries to remove the infection, more comments about how it looks like a c-section, and sent home.  I was off for a total of 8 weeks.  We were told we'd MAYBE have a 15% chance of getting prego.  Well guess what, I'm HERE!  I'm 39 so I had NT testing and then the CVS test.  The dr. doing the CVS asked me how long ago I had a c-section.  NOT!  He said you don't want one if you can help it.  He said the trip through the birth canal compresses the lungs and once out, the lungs expand and baby has considerably less breathing and respiratory issues than c-section babies.  Huh, didn't know that.    So the torture of my c-section-like surgery has totally turned me off for going through ANY surgery, staples, possibility of infection, etc.  However, if it were necessary, I'm sure I'd recover eventually.  So vaginal will be my preference.

I hope you have a relatively uneventful recovery.  GL!

A lot of women feel that unless it is a medical necessity then the mother is being selfish by having an elective c/s. The idea is that your baby is going to come when he/she is ready to and you shouldn't screw with nature just because of convenience/ comfort exc.

Oh FFS.  Give me a break.  As long as you're full term who cares?

I was up and walking with my hair done and a full face of make up less than 24 hours after my section.

It's not that big of a deal.  I love it when women who have never had a section have such strong opinions-like they have any clue.

Like my dr says-you can be cut in the tummy or down there, it's your choice.

C-section = major surgery, vaginal birth = process intended by nature.  Most people don't want surgery unless it's 100% necessary.

100% agree. I will not be having a c-section unless my doctor deems it absolutely necessary for my or my baby's health.

    I agree with you fish.

This is NOTHING like a section.  Nothing.

I didn't say it was my opinion. I just said that it is an opinion and one that all the 3rd tri girls are constantly reminded of. As I said before I don't care what you choose to do. I personally don't have a problem with people choosing to have a c/s, it is their body and their choice. For me personally having had  to have an ovary removed I know that surgery is not a good option for me, it sucked and if I can ever avoid any sort again I will.

  • Why is everyone saying it is a MAJOR SURGERY?! If anyone has had a major surgery before you would know that a c-section is not major. Try having reconstructive knee surgery at the age of 18. Don't let people scare you, my friend just had a baby two weeks ago and she had a c/s and she said she wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
