My doc told me i had "elevated blood sugar levels" after my test last week and now i have to take the 3 hour test tuesday. has neone else had this test done and/or knows what it means?
I haven't had it done but you basically fast for 8 hours, go in, drink the stuff, then sit for 3 hours and they take your blood like 4 times. Mostly I've heard its just boring.

LOTS of women on here had to have the 3-hour GTT, including myself, and it's no big deal. PP is right on with what it entails. Bring a book, computer, or some other form of entertainment. Most people pass the 3-hour. I was high risk for gestational diabetes and never got it...passed the 3-hour with flying colors.
Ditto PPer. It basically means that your body didn't process the sugar as fast as it should and they want to check it again using a more thorough test.
I had to have it done this PG, and everything came out fine, basically my body doesn't process sugar quite as fast as they want, but it does process it correctly.
If you fail the 3hr they send you to a specialist who works with you to get your diet just right so your sugar doesn't affect you or the baby during PG.

I had to take this test yesterday and pp's are right, it is really just boring. It is best to do it first thing in the morning so you get your fasting over with during the night. You go in and they draw your blood first thing, then make you drink the glucose drink (mine was different than the one hour, tasted way more sugary). Then an hour after you finish the drink they draw blood again, and 2 more times after each hour passes for a total of 4 blood draws.
I had to do this also and it was not fun. They take your blood first and then you have to chug the orange drink. I was okay until about 30 min into the test and then I felt like I was going to throw up and faint at the same time. I had to lay down the entire 3 hours. I would definitely suggest scheduling it as early as possible because of the fasting. i passed though! good luck!

I had my 3 hour one last week as well. I also felt quite dizzy and nauseous and they would not let me drink water. I brought my computer and since I have blackberry tethering services, I was able to do some work and surf the net which made it go by very quickly. I definitely RAN to the nearest food establishment right afterwards and got something yummy to eat! On Monday I found out I passed with flying colors! Wohooo!
BIG suggestion... bring a snack for right after the test is over. I didn't and by the time I got to my lunch date with DH, I had almost passed out because of not eating for a total of 16 hours... 12 hr fast that was required and the 3-4 hours of testing. GL!!
ps - I passed too and my blood sugar was a 199 after the 1-hour so you'll probably be fine... don't stress too much about it.
I just had mine today - don't know the results yet, but ditto what everyone else said.
Yeah, you have to stay put the whole 3 hours because your movement would affect how the glucose is processed in your system (you would be burning it off and they want to see how your body can do it on its own I think). Boring, but not horrible for me. The drink tasted the same to me as the first one, but it had double the glucose in it from the 1 hr.
I was allowed to drink water, so that was a relief. Ditto what others said about taking a snack - I felt fine when my test was over so planned to just go home and have lunch but by the time I'd walked back to the subway I felt a little woozy and when I got to my neighborhood I was actually shaky and hoping I wouldn't faint so stopped off at a restaurant.
