3rd Trimester

Gift from Baby to Big Sister / Little Brother

What kind of gift did you purchase so the baby can"give" it to their sibling? My daughter is 2.

  • Huh?  Why is that necessary?  My DD is getting a new sibling - that's her gift ;)

  • A lot of people have mentioned getting the child cameras & I really like the idea.  But, all the reviews say that the picture quality is TERRIBLE.  We decided that it might frustrate our son, so went another route.

So, we got two books--one is "I'm a Big Brother" and the other is just one that we knew he would like.  Then, he is SUPER into dinosaurs right now, so we got him so soft/squishy dinosaurs that he'd been wanting.  We think this will be good because it's something he's been wanting anyway.  And, between the books & the dinos, it is something that he can occupy himself with.  It's packed in the hospital bag and "baby brudder" will give it to him when he comes to visit.

Also, we took him to the toy store and I gave him the option of like 5 different stuffed animals to pick from to give to "baby brudder".  He picked a puppy, which he is quite excited to give to him! :)

  • DD is really into princesses right now so we got a box set of all four princess dresses for $25 at Target.  I thought it was important that it be something she really likes and something she could use (as opposed to jewelry or something like that.)
  • DS will only be between 14 and 16 months old.  We got him an Elmo Tool Bench  for when we bring the baby home.  It's not necessarily from his new little brother....more so he's getting a bit more attention since there will now be a new baby in the house for him to share the attention with.

I think for awhile, my DS in NOT going to think of the new baby as a "gift."

  • My parents gave me a big sister gift when both my brother and sister were born and I still remember exactly what they gave me and how special I felt (I was 4 and 6 when they were born).  They really made a big deal out of me being a big sister and I think that helped me transition and not feel so jealous.

So we are definitely getting DS a big brother gift... not sure what yet.  We've talked about the camera thing, but a fun new car is always what I think he really wants...:)

  • Our little guy got a gift for his big sister :) We got the diaper bag from PBK with diapers, wipes, a bottle and changing pad. DD loves her PBK baby and she's always taking care of the baby so I thought it would be good for her to have something for her baby.

She also picked out a gift for him. Just a little toy that she liked. We'll let her wrap it before she comes to visit him in the hospital.

  • We got a Baby Alive doll for dd#1 from dd#2.

  • I'm not sure yet what DS is going to get from LO.  I have thought of getting him a kids camera and a "Big Brother" book.  We are going to take DS to Build-A-Bear so he can make the baby a teddy bear and that will be his gift to LO.

We're doing the child camera for DD (she'll be a few months over 2).  My friends with the VTech have said the picture quality isn't bad, and it gets good reviews on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Vtech-Kidizoom-Plus-Digital-Camera/dp/B000NZORB0).
