I've just been washing Dominic's face and head as usual and it is slowly going away. We're starting the 2nd week from when it first popped up. If I remember correctly, with my oldest it took almost a month to go away completely.
I found that the more I tried to "help" the worse it got. But if it feels scaly/crusty, then that's something else entirely. Our pedi told us to put 1% hydrocortisone on that part, which makes a huge difference.
Also - the cali baby tea tree and lavender wash is excellent for the little bit of cradle cap that keeps trying to pop up. Which isn't acne, but for whatever reason they're linked in my head.

Aquaphor! DD got it late, around 6-8 weeks and it was pretty bad. I resisted the Aquaphor because it sounded totally counter-intuitive, but it worked - within a couple hours of slathering it on her cheeks, they were far less red and within a couple days it was gone. I used it on her cheeks for a long time, actually.
If it is dry and red feeling that is something different and you need to clear it with your doctor first to use some 1% hydrocortisone cream (which I then put aquaphor on top of it to seal it in and so he doesn't get his hands in it an eat any residue).
If it is just the bumpy acne...aquaphor alone will take care of it within a day or two.
Seems counterproductive to put a greasy substance on it, but really it works, it is because it blocks irritants from touching the skin and sooths with the lanolin to cause any additional flair ups.
K&C's tip for aquaphor really helped us and also breat milk (kinda gross, I know). I would dap a little breast milk on her bumps and they were generally gone by the end of the day.
Re: Help with baby acne
When you say wash are you using a gentle soap?
I'm only wiping him with a warm washcloth right now..

We just use the J&J baby shampoo and body wash on all the kiddos. It works for us.
