3rd Trimester

Elders...Question

For those who's baby's "dropped", did this rib pain/pressure go away. Not sure if everyone experiences this but it feels as though my ribs are going to burst, especially when I'm sitting down! LO is REALLY high, my doc commented on it last week. So that's most likely why. Just curious:

1. When did baby "drop", if at all?

2. Did it really make that big of a difference on your rib discomfort?

Thanks!!

Re: Elders...Question

  • Your baby can drop anytime from a couple weeks before to a couple hours or so before labor! I can't say there's a difference because LO hasn't dropped here yet!

  • With DD she went head down at 30 weeks and "dropped" around 36 weeks... while it appeared that my belly was much lower and the doc commented that she was low the rib discomfort was no different unless I was standing... when lying down or sitting the rib pain and lack of ability to get comfy never went away until she was born at 41 weeks...
  • My doctor told me I dropped (from "floating" to -1 station). I had no idea and experienced no relief or new symptoms from it.

  • When DD#1 dropped nothing changed. I was carrying SOOO low with her the entire time that when she dropped for labor it just made me have to pee and waddle more.

This time, I dropped sometime between Sat afternoon and Sunday morning. I can tell a huge difference. But IMO it's kinda worse. Before she dropped I had some trouble breathing bc she was pressing on my lungs, now she's on my bladder and her feet keep getting caught in my ribs (or at least that's what it feels like).

Before she was so high that the ribs were too close together to get stuck in, but now she's getting her feet caught in the bigger ribs that have more space between them and it makes me gasp in pain every single time she does it.

My LO dropped at about 35 weeks. While I was carrying quite low to begin with, I could feel a slight difference in my ribs (relief!) and more room in my stomach. The downside? I now rock a slight waddle ;-)

  • Mine still hasn't dropped yet, so I can't answer #2.

  • My LO dropped over a couple of weeks around week 35. I had serious rib pain before then and while the rib pain has gone away, I now have serious muscle pain around my sternum. I'm not sure which is worse...
  • This isn't from my own experience but my best friend had a baby in January and he dropped a few weeks prior to EDD. SHe said she definitely felt some relief in her rib cage and didn't feel quite as squished.

  • Mine dropped around 36 weeks and was a huge relief for my ribs and shortness of breath. However, ever since have been having intense urge to pee at night and lots of sciatic nerve and hip pain.

  • LO dropped at 35 weeks, and I felt a huge difference under my ribs. They had been feeling so sore and bruised, but after he dropped he bruised feeling went away!
  • I have been carrying pretty low. I dropped around 36 weeks, and have dropped even lower since. I still can't sit for more than 20 minutes in one position without unbearable rib pain though! I think she's long. I was 22.5 inches so I wouldn't be surprised!

  • Mine dropped at about 36 weeks or so. I have had a lot less discomfort in my ribs but a lot more discomfort in my pelvis. Sigh, the tradeoffs.
