So, I have an infection in my finger, apparently.

By the nail bed.  It's been swollen and irritated for a couple of days.  Usually this happens when there is a spliting off part of my nail digging into the bed.  I can usually just clip it out and I am good.

So, I stuck something in there to dig it out just now and yellow puss came out. Indifferent

WTF do I do with that?

    That literally made me gag.  I almost can't even think about it to come up with an answer.  Rinse with hydrogen peroxide, coat in neosporin and apply a bandaid.  If it gets worse instead of better call your doc.

    Honestly, I'd go to the doctor and get some antibiotics.  I had a nail infection (in my cuticle, but same idea), and my nail ended up being so damaged it grew off completely, and then grew back (very slowly).  It still has one edge that's thicker than it should be, and this was 5+ years ago.

    No gagging, here. Been there, done that actually. The other responders do recommend a sound course of action, though -- peroxide, Neosporin, perhaps a bandaid to keep the Neosporin "put." It'll clear up in a few days.

    I'd soak it in warm soapy water--hydrogen peroxide actually isn't all that good for your healthy tissue--then try to express as much of the puss out of it as you can.  Clean again and coat with neosporin and cover lightly with a bandaid.

    This...warm soapy water is better than peroxide. Or at least that is what I tell my patients... Do the soaks several times/day. Should clear up pretty quickly. If the redness is spreading or getting close to any of your finger joints go to the doc for some antibiotics.
