Moms of daughters-do you feel sorry for them inheriting any feature?

My daughter has inherited my husband's stocky body and large feet, and I have a feeling she will have a hard time with that when she gets older.

Her feet are huge and her legs and trunk are thick. On the flip side, she is already very long, and I can tell she will be tall.  She also has the most stunningly beautiful eyes and facial features, so maybe it won't matter.

It's funny because I am 5'2 and very small boned.  She will soon be half as tall as me.

  • not really.  But I do hope she has DHs eyes and my teeth...if not she is screwed (DS too).

  • Both of my kids got my really bad skin. I am allergic to EVERYTHING.
  • nah.  i did wish that she had my dark, thick hair, but so far she's all daddy.  we're both pretty good lookin' people so i think she's in the clear ;)

  • not really but i am happy she does have dark hair and blue eyes. i also love that so far she has my dh metabolism and not mine. she eats so much and she is generally skinny. i wish i was like that:)

  • I don't know yet...but I really hope DD does not inherit all of my moles.  I have a LOT of moles!  I have had to go to the dermotologist every year since I was 12 years old for a yearly check-up and biopsies.  I really can't tell you how many I  have had cut off.  My grandfather died from skin cancer, so we are high-risk.  I hate it!

  • Not really.  I mean of course there are things I hope she gets from me and things from dh but I won't feel sorry for her, just probably hope she doesn't hate those features like I hate some of mine (like my ankles, lol).

I hope she doesn't get my eyesight, dh has 20/20 vision.  But I do hope she gets my hearing, dh's hearing is horrible.  Those are some examples.

Plus your daughter is still really young, you never know how she's gonna grow :)

  • My DH had rather large buck teeth when he was a child.  He was called "chiclets", if that helps visualize.  DD is definitely showing some signs of having that gene.  Thank goodness cosmetic dentistry has progressed since DH and I were kids.  I will not hesitate to have her teeth fixed just for cosmetic reasons.  Or she can play hockey like her dad and have her front teeth replaced out of necessity.
  • My DD inherited my butt.  No kidding, we laugh about how our butts are shaped exactly the same.  It isn't so bad really.  SO's side of the family has pear shaped women and I think that probably has its drawbacks, too.

  • I hope she doesn't have large breasts! I hate, hate, hate them and have always hated, hated them. They are horrible.

  • I will feel sorry for her if she gets my teeth or my hips, but otherwise, no. She didn't get much from me, lol, but she's really fair-skinned, and I think she gets that from me. But I like it Smile

  • I think at 11mos its hard to tell how their bodies will turn out when they are an adult. She probably still has alot of baby fat on there and she could sprout up and be really lean and slender.

  • Not a feature, exactly, but I really hope they have better/clearer skin than I did as a teenager/20-something!

And my DD1 already has a mild skin condition that my dad and I have. It's just cosmetic -- little bumps on her arms, mostly. I do wish she hadn't gotten that particular gene, but it's NBD.

  • I think the poor thing may have inherited my thighs.
  • Well I don't have a DD, but if I do, I would hate for her to inherit my dark underarms and keratosis pilaris (you know those bumps on the upper arms).  It's NBD now, but as a kid/teenager, it sucked and I don't think it made me a better person, LOL.

This is one reason I'm glad I had boys. I would have felt so guilty if I'd had to pass on some of my physical traits to a daughter. :(

This cracks me up because I hate my ankles too!  I have serious cankles!  I have always said that I wish that I could get lipo in my ankles...haha!

  • Hmm...nope, I'm pretty gorgeous. Seriously though, I'm on the fence about whether I want either of them to inherit the gap I have between my two front teeth. I have always kinda owned it and liked it, hence my not having it closed, but I took A LOT of heat for it growing up.

But it looks like Lauryn has my husband's nose, poor thing. You can look up my husband's nose and see what he's thinking. I'm talking huge nostrils. Oh well, she will still be fabulous!

  • So far so good. However, she has DH's thick legs. My one redeeming quality, physically is my legs. Long & lean. She does have my little button nose & cute ears.

  • hmm.. i hope she ends up with my husbands nose and not mine... mine is ok, but his is like model perfect..  i also hope she gets his hair as his is super thick & nice..
  • I REALLY hope they get my DH's butt.  He's got the perkiest roundest derreier.  Really it's unfair how nice it is, especially compared to my sad whitegirl butt. Sad  But if they get my hair texture it will be a fair trade.

And please please please, for the love of all things holy, please let them get my toe nails.  DH's are so oddly shaped.  Seriously.

  • I hope she doesn't get my boobs.  I also hope she manages to stay slim and avoid both of our metabolisms.  I was teased terribly for being chubby, and I don't want that to happen to her.
  • Nah, but I am very curious about how her looks will end up as they change and mature through adolescence.  Right now, she looks a lot like me with very subtle differences.  It's sort of weird, because every feature, I think might be from me, yet she doesn't look completely Chinese, so who knows what's happening.  It's like she has my features, but they're put together differently.

I think I look okay, and DH would make an exceptionally pretty girl.  Stick out tongue

  • DH and I both have longer torsos and short legs. My brothers, mom, dad too.  I don't see any way for DD out of it, and sure enough - she can't wear 18 month onesies, for example, because they are too short for her torso, but she can wear 18 month pants and they're a little long.

    Petite pants for her!

  • She got my teeth, so she can thank me for the massive orthodontics in her future.  Ditto her curly hair that will be a PITA her whole life.

Too soon to say, but I really hope she got my awesome metabolism (I've been skinny my whole life and never had to work for it) and eyesight and DH's temper (or lack of) , chin and brain.

  • DD is so petite, just like my MIL. DH is pretty average sized, but DD's body type is just like his mom's-only with my-shaped legs. I think her facial features are an even mix of both of us, but the shape of her face is all DH (longer face shape, mine is more round).

  • nah not really,  she is a pretty good mix of the two of us.  She is tall like her daddy,  she has his big blue eyes but my mouth and high cheekbones. The only thing she has that is kind of a bummer is, I have small dainty feet.  I have shoe display size feet (I like my feet).   She has her daddy's ski feet.  Her toes are finger like and his wierd toenails.  But I don't worry about it. It's a minor detail.

  • she has my broad shoulders, which h was really happy about her getting. me though?  not so much.  she can be a good swimmer like me, i guess?
  • as long as she doesn't get DH's flat feet, she's all good.
  • I think DD is pretty damn cute as she is, but DH is worried she'd get his nose. It's cute and small so far, but DH has a pretty large nose, and has always told me that as a guy, it doesn't really matter, but he hoped the kiddo would not inherit it.

I also hope she doesn't get my skin - I still get break outs too often!

  • The only thing I've noticed so far is that she has DH's narrow shoulders.  But, she also got his amazing bright blue eyes so I'm thrilled about that!!  I really hope she doesn't inherit my bad eyesight :(  Only time will tell!
  • I just hope she doesn't get DH's "old" nose.  If she does, we may have to set aside a fund to get it fixed, like DH's parents did when he turned 16.
  • I really hope she doesn't get my bad back.  As for aesthetic features, she should be fine.

  • I hope none of my children get my height. I'm 4'10". I'm not super fat, but any excess weight looks awful on me and it is very obvious if I put on even 10 lbs. I hope that she will avoid that. I want her to have my DH's height (he's 6'3" and his sister is around 5'9-5'10" and both are very slender. So far so good! She got my blue eyes and mouth. :)

     LOL @ this!!!

DD looks exactly like MH except that she has my eyes and my hands.  There are probably the only two features I'd want her to have of mine. God help her if she gets my figure. I'll be in for lots of tears, for sure.

  • I LOVE that my DD got most of her coloring from my DH (ie. dark hair, dark eyes, olive skin) but the one thing I feel sorry for her that she got for her handsome daddy is his eyebrows! lol she already has a very faint uni- brow...which he didnt come to grips with till after highschool. He takes care of it now but. She will be able to shape them nicely... its just going to be a battle that is going to start way sooner then later (obviously since its already showing)

This!  When DD was an infant she looked like a minature Dh and DH is a good looking guy, nothing feminine about him.  She has softened up a bit and for that we are both happy:)

I am also afraid she has inherited my klutiziness, but it is hard to tell since she is a toddler after all:)

Oh God!!  I didn't even think of this since I had mine reduced when I was 20--I totally forgot that she could ihnerit my ginormous boobs!!!  Oh hell, I hope not.

  • Yes, she has my ability to grow facial hair (unibrow and upper lip).  It is subtle but I can see it  being a life-long fight against unwanted hair.

Other than that, she's pretty lucky in that she got the best of DH's and my features.
