2nd Trimester

almost 18 weeks and no movement

I'll be 18 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't felt any movement. Granted this is my first pregnancy so I don't know what i'm suppose to feel but there hasn't been any fluttering or popcorn popping feeling that everyone describes. Anyone else go this long before they felt anything??

  • LO is most likely moving in there ... just not big enough movements to really feel them! I felt the first movement at 19 weeks ... and it was really hard to tell what it was ... hang in there ...
  • Most of my friends didn't feel it until 20+ weeks- so there is still time!
  • I haven't felt anything yet either. The doctor said I would within the next few weeks. Hang in there

  • I'm 18 weeks and I haven't felt anything either.  Hopefully I will soon, but I also remember the u/s tech saying something (at my NT scan) about my placenta being in an odd place ("oh, there's your placenta" and I was too busy staring at the baby on the screen that it didn't occur to me to ask a follow-up question).  So I'm wondering if I have an anterior placenta and I won't feel anything for a while. I'll know more next week at the "big" u/s.

  • With my first pregnancy, I didn't feel anything until 20+ weeks.  I remember being at my 20 week ultrasound and seeing the baby move all over the place and thinking how strange that that was going on inside me and I didn't feel a thing!!
  • I started feeling little pokes at 20 w.
  • i started feeling movement at 18 weeks and 5 days. i remember because i had my dr appt at 18 weeks 4 days and when he asked if i had felt any movement i had said no. nothing. nada. not a thing. then literally, overnight, i started feeling real live honest to goodness movement. no doubt about it.

and after that point, i realized that i actually HAD been feeling movement from as early as 16 weeks, but had written it off as gas.

  • Do you have an anterior placenta? That could definitely be a reason why you haven't felt anything. I didn't get any definite movement until 20/21 weeks.

  • I was a little over 20 weeks before I felt anything.  Hang in there - it will happen!
  • I am 19 weeks and 4 days and I just felt movement for the first time today. It scared the crap out of me b/c I wasn't expecting it at all for another few weeks.
  • Yep, mine was right around 18 weeks when I was able to tell it was LO moving in there.  Don't worry, totally normal!

  • 23 weeks here and I think I finally felt something last night. I started feeling some kind of motion at night at around 21 weeks, but last night was the first night it was consistant.  May have been gas or just my pulse, but I like to think at 23 weeks it is movement.  No anterior placenta here...

  • I just started feelig mine last week. It takes a bit to realize what you're feeling. I first started feeling her when I was going to bed a long time after dinner and I was hungry. Maybe because my stomach was still and it emphasized her movement more? I dunno. I feel her the most when I'm sitting upright with my feet up in the recliner. I guess she's sorta squished that way.

  • In the beginning, I only felt flutters, and it was random.  At 22 weeks, it felt more distinct as far as movement.

  • I didn't really feel movement other than questionable flutters until closer to 20 weeks. I'm 26 weeks now and have only felt kicks from the outside for the last 2 weeks. I wouldn't be worried.
