Re: XP: wisdom teeth question

  • i had all four taken out at once. was knocked out and went home with happy drugs. had it done on a friday and by sunday i was right as rain. put ice on your face so it doesn't swell and drink some milkshakes.

    wasn't a big deal.

  • Not even close. I was knocked out since mine hadn't broken through my gums yet and I ended up with dry rot. Still a piece of cake.

Right!  :o)  Can ANYTHING compare to that kind of pain?  I don't think so.  GL with your wisdom teeth- it will be done and over with before you know it.

  • personally i would just ask your dentist if you can bring your ipod- once they numb you - you really don't feel anything. I was only knocked out because all four my teeth were impacted and havent' yet broken the gum line- so it was a little different.

listen to some jams so you won't hear the drill and such- it won't be that bad. the pain afterwards is totally manageable imo

  • I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out at once and I wasn't knocked out - only gas.  It is not even close to the pain of child birth - it is a lot less pain!  Plus, two of mine where compacted which made it worse for me.  The funny thing about my situation was that my best friend's little sister had her wisdom teeth taken out right before me and she heard my procedure as she was recovering in the next room.  I didn't remember a thing about the procedure, but she said I was talking the whole time.  I don't remember any pain until a few days after the pain meds wore off.

I hate the dentist and don't do well with dental procedures either.

  • i had them out with the gas and it was not bad at all. i did three first and then had to go back for one more and i can tell you i felt pretty good leaving the office on all the drugs they gave me. lol

I also had all 4 taken out at the same time and was knocked out.  I don't think I could do it any other way.  I was sent home feeling loopy and given Percocet for the pain.  I had it done on a Friday afternoon and Sunday was Easter.  I was able to eat Easter dinner.  Not quickly but I was still able to do it.  GL

  • I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out when I was about 21.  They knocked me out and when I woke up, I was done.  Honestly, I remember the worst thing about it wasn't the pain, but all of the bleeding.  My mom drove me and I made her stop the car a few times on the way home so that I could spit out mouthfulls of blood.

As far as comparing it to child birth, I have had two med-free births...so having my wisdom teeth removed was a cake walk.  lol.

  • I had all four teeth taken out at once.  They did knock me out, and when I came to, sure it was painful.  But not even close to giving birth.  Not even close.  A little achy for a week or so -- no big deal.

  • I had all 4 taken out at the same time and it really wasn't a big deal. I got knocked out for it (I was afraid to and didn't really want to but when the dentist said that I might see blood squirt out of my mouth I was like um, ok, I'll take a nap. ;) )  I was given pain meds but I never really needed them. I took one the night of the surgery just in case I felt pain after the Novocaine wore off (I'm a chicken when it comes to pain) and threw up shortly after taking the pain med. That was really the worst part of the whole experience. Just make sure you follow your dentist's instructions closely. Irrigate religiously if you're asked to do it. That was the weirdest part...the irrigating.
  • I've never given birth, but it was nothing.  I think I took 2 of my 30 pain pills and that was it.  Within 24 hours I felt fine.  Of course, I couldn't eat whatever I wanted, but other than that and a little swelling I felt fine.  Make sure if they give you the sexy velcro icepacks, you keep those babies!  Otherwise, I suggest bags of frozen peas and ace bandages.

Now, on the other hand, I had a broken molar removed (it had broken off down into the root) and the site prepared with a bone graft for an implant and that was horrific.  I would rather have had my wisdom teeth pulled all over again instead of that.
