Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9oz bottles

So I just bought 4 of the larger Avent bottles at a consignment sale.  Is DD really going to drink 9oz at one time within her first year?

When do you know to graduate to the next bottle size & increase their servings?  Right now she drinks 5oz at a time.

I plan to ask my pedi this question, but curious to hear other people's thoughts.

Re: 9oz bottles

  • My LO was drinking 8oz at a time until we started on fruits/veggies...now he drinks 4-5oz at a time.  The pedi told me that was completely "normal."

I'd offer your LO a "large" bottle and see what she does with it. My LO used to suck down all 8oz and now, not even close. I don't even make that large of a bottle unless it's first thing in the morning (sometimes he'll drink 6-8oz or after bathtime)

  • My son is big and growing like a weed - 19lbs, 30 inches.  But he rarely takes more than 4 oz at once!

At one month old he took 6oz no problem.  Now he's more of a snacker I guess.  He will have 3 oz usually ever 2.5-3 hrs.  I don't think he will ever have 9oz at once.

My ds has been drinking 8 oz. at a time since about 4 months.  We also started solids at that time, so he never really takes more than 8 oz.  If he seems unsatisfied, we up his solids rather than his formula.

this. she only has 3 bottles a day, so I think that makes a difference too. Before solids she was taking 5-6 8oz bottles (yikes!!!)
