Hey momma! I'm sorry you're going through this with the girls! We've been through it too and it's super hard. We found out Aiden was intolerant at 10 days old when he started having blood in his stools. =( Talk about a scary day! Anyway, after a few Dr's visits, we went and saw a pedi GI and he recommended going on the elimination diet (no dairy, soy, eggs, wheat or nuts). He said it can take up to 3 weeks to see results because a lot of those proteins take 14 days to get out of my system and then a week to get out of Aiden's. We went back before 21 days and he still had signs of the intolerence so we put him on Allimentium for a week (I pumped). It was the hardest thing ever. I bawled trying to give him the formula. He just wouldn't take it. It's SUPER gross! It smells disgusting! I saw on FB that the girls weren't taking it either. Have DH try and you have to leave the room (they'll smell you and your milk). Eventually they'll take it cause they'll be hungry enough. After a week, he wasn't having any other signs of the allergy. I went back to the GI and we decided to give him formula at daycare (this was while I was still working) and I'd BF him the other times and on the weekend. I was still free of the certain foods. After so long, I started bringing things back like wheat and eggs. Then around 6 months we had him tested and he tested + for dairy, soy, and nuts-- among other things. However, we recently testing him again at a year and he was neg for everything...so he just has a dairy and soy intolerance that hopefully he'll outgrown. I've been dairy and soy free for almost 14 months! It's been the hardest thing ever but it gets easier and easier. There are soooo many alternatives and if you can have soy, there are even more. Be careful of the goats milk products though (saw on FB someone mentioned it) cause sometimes the goats milk protein is the same as the cow's milk protein-- which is what the babies are intolerant of. I have many websites and recepies if you're interested. There are lots of others on here who are dairy free as well. I've realized that when I finally do wean, I probably won't eat sour cream anymore (at least for Mexican) b/c guacamole has been my substitute and it's way healthier

. Not that this matters, but I've also lost 15 more pounds on top of the 50 I gained during pregnancy. Which also tells me the food I was eating just wasn't that great for me! I mean, I'll eat cheese again, but probably not like I was. Same with other items, like creams and such. Let me know if you have any questions. And good luck girl. It's rough and a very hard decision. I don't regret it though. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had to for #2. Oh yeah, you start saving money too, cause you can't eat out as much either

.
Re: ***Mrs.Babbsy*** re: Milk allergy
thank you for this post!!!
I would love anything you have. This is sooo hard. We just gave in and gave them a bottle of breast milk. I can't stand them crying. Please teach me how to eat! I would love to lose weight too!
So they could test them?

Aw, you're welcome.
I know how hard it is to give them nasty formula! I wouldn't want to drink it either. I should specify that I'm talking about Alimentum, cause that stuff is horrid! I think the first night, I gave in and did breast milk too. I just said to DH, I can't do it!! We decided to wait until the next day and try again. Ugh! It was the most difficult thing!
Here are some websites to help you determine if things you're eating have dairy in them. And believe me, you'll be reading EVERY food label you come across. And you'll find that dairy is in A LOT!

I realized that I could eat Quaker Instant Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal with water, when I thought that was a disgusting thought before. But check the label, some of them have milk. The high fiber one doesn't. You can also drink or use in recipes (if you don't like to drink) rice, almond or coconut milk. Speaking of coconut milk, check out this brand of ice cream and yogurt...YUM! https://www.turtlemountain.com/products/purely_decadent_Coconut_Milk.html I'm addicted and it's soooo good! Oh and Oreo's are not REAL cream
. It's pretty much lard, but if you like Oreo's...it'll help your need for sweets. Starbursts and Skittles too. You may not be able to have cheesecake and cookies, but you can have Oreos and Starbursts!
There's a test called Alletess that is just a prick of the finger and 3 drops of blood. Only thing is, this is for an actual allergy...not an intolerance. So they may test negative for the allergy an still show signs of the problem. Which would mean it's probably the intolerance of the protein in the cows milk. Different from an allergy. And now that they're 6 months old, you should be able to go to an allergist...even though it's still kinda early for much beneficial testing to be done. Here's the link for the blood work one...your pedi can do it or I think you can even order the test: https://www.foodallergy.com/
thank you sooooo much for the info!!!!
I will be saving this post!
