Damn you sling recall!

This whole sling thing has become quite the annoyance!

Yesterday I was dropping the kids off with the in laws and my MIL was like "I have something you really need to see"  Then she pulls out a news paper clipping about the bag sling recall and I try to tell I dont have or use those, I have a ring sling and wraps and she was insistant that the wraps were on the list as well.  I kept telling her they weren't and so she proceeds to read the half page article.. what she read was that the sling wraps over the shoulder.. Ugh!

So then today I went to walmart and had DS in the basket with the cart cover and I was wearing DD as usual when someone came up to me and said that my wrap was deadly and I should have DD in the basket and DS walking.  After she stopped screaming when I kicked her in the shin, I explained the whole sling thing.  J/k about the shin kick.  Even though I did it in my head!

  • I'm steeling myself for the same types of interference from well meaning folks in a few months when baby #2 comes and is worn regularly (I'm not wearing my toddler anymore, so I haven't had any freak outs in my direction yet).  I am seriously considering carrying the business card size explanation I linked to a couple of days ago, just to avoid killing someone in the midst of PP hormones when I am out wearing the new baby right at first...

  • I guess I'm lucky - no one has said anything negative to me. I only use the beco when I'm out and about (he's getting too heavy for the moby and I don't have a woven yet) and I think people here are accustomed to seeing that type of carrier.

    Dear the Bump,

I've been a long-time reader of your publication, but never thought it could happen to me. I was waiting in line with my daughter strapped to my chest in an Ergo carrier, and talking to the daughter of the sour-looking lady in line behind me.  After I ascertained the type of cookie her daughter had, the lady told me, "You know you need to be really careful with those - they strangle the baby."  I explained to her that the recall had been for one specific brand of carrier, which was anyhow arranged differently than the carrier I was wearing.  She told me, "Still, it's just not safe."  Anyhow, does anyone know how to get blood out of an Ergo?

  • I have worn my SBP sling since the recall and still only get positive comments...

If someone did say something to me I wish I could respond,

While I appreciate your looking out for my child, as a mother to my baby, I make sure I do all my research before using any baby product.  Before you go out of your way to tell a strange incorrect information, you may want to do your homework first,  The recall was for bag slings, not all baby carriers.  What you just told me was like saying my Mitsubishi would have the same issues as Toyota is having bc they are both cars.
