Strangers touching the bump....

I can't stand it!!!

One of my friends just started dating this girl, and I have met her all of two times quickly.  I really do consider her a stranger and she came over my house the other day and said, "HIIIII HOW'S THE BUMP?!?!" then proceeded to touch it..

I laughed it off, but I was very uncomfortable...what gives her the right?

Does anyone else feel like this???

I usually let everyone touch it, if they ask, but she came on a little too strong and I barely know her!!!

Re: Strangers touching the bump....

  • I just bought myself a t-shirt that says, "Touch the belly, lose the hand."  I may wear it every day.

  • I will let the first person who does this live, but only to warn others not to make the same mistake!

  • What i've noticed is it bothers me more when i'm sitting down. When i'm standing up it's hard and feels like a bump. But when i'm sitting down it's more squishy and feels like a fat roll. I dont really feel like having people rub my fat roll!

  • No, I totally agree!!!  People think that because there is a cute baby in there, that it's free range for touches.  Hello-that's my stomach!!!!!  If it's a sweet old lady and that may be the only enjoyment she has in her day, I just deal with it, but adults our age, no way.  I usually try to turn away from it or (something I heard someone else do), touch their belly in return and say "How do you like it."  HAHAHA-I think thats so funny!!!  It will really make them think before touching another strangers belly again!!!!

  • I HATE when people touch the bump....
  • I don't really have a prominent bump (damn my long torso, and I also wear baggy clothes)...so I would be happy if someone even noticed I was pregnant and not just thinking I look chunky. :)

Still, I am sure it will get annoying once it's huge.

  • Grab their wrist, pull it away from your stomach and say "I'm not comfortable with that".

I'm lucky, with three older brother's I have an over protective reflex in that when someone comes at me with their hand I automatically karate chop block them without even thinking.....who knew all those years of getting beat up would be useful for something?

  • I've had some people who know me barely and when they reach for it, I just back up and say I'm sorry.  If they ask if they can touch it, I respectfully request that they don't.  How would they feel if I reached out and patted their "guts" because I simply felt like it?  I don't understand why all type of people feel that it's OK to touch a pregnant woman's belly?  I don't mind my friends or family (and even they ask), but random people?  Maybe I should just start patting their bellies back and see how they react?  Hmmmmm.......

  • I don't even like it when my family touches my bump! I'm weird. I can handle when my mother, one sister only, and DF touch my bump but that's it!!! I feel super uncomfortable when people touch it...it's just awkward.
  • Luckily I haven't had a stranger try and touch my belly. I try to keep a "touch my belly and get stabbed" face on it public.

  • I am not big enough yet for people to have the urge to touch my bump yet, but I anticipate I will not be a fan of it. It bothers me now when people stare at my belly when they talk to me.

  • I agree that this is about the strangers thing a stranger could possibly think was ok! I am determined to pat back any stranger that touches my belly. You just have to wonder what people are thinking!!! I will report on the reactions of these intruding strangers!
  • I must be the odd one out...

I don't mind it when people touch my stomach.  Whether they ask if it's okay or not, it makes no difference to me - I'm proud of my bump and I actually think it's a great thing that people are so excited about a pregnant belly.
