So the AOOBRSP* (Almightly Overpriced and OverBudget Rustic Screen Porch) is just about to come together. (for those that have missed my moans 'n groans: we had an existing deck made into a "rustic screenporch" which eventually consisted of variances thru the city, a more than doubled budget, and a sub-contractor (I was GC) I can't scream at because he's my cousin. BUT...It's going to be beautiful... we ended up doing the whole thing in cedar (he found a "deal") with skylights (craigslist!) and a suspended daybed. (he made).
We're scrubbing and prepping to stain today. We picked out stain, and decided to go with a lil' blue tint to things. The furniture we got for it is dark brown wicker/resin, with eathy sea tones - blues, seafoam greens, browns.. very neutral, very "beachy" but not bright. (piks coming, it's packed away, another off-season steal on clearance)
The color is "grey moss" from Cabot, and it's the very 1st one ON THIS PAGE . It looks a bit more dusty blue in real life. The transparent stain is for the "walls" (cedar wood holding the screen) and the bit darker version, even a tad bit more blue, is for the floor. The area around the porch is SWALLOWED by tons of green trees all summer long. We have to keep things light, or it'll seem like a dark cave in there.
I'm painting samples now, stay tuned.
My question is....
DO WE STAIN THE CEILING? (the transparent color, so just a hint of blue'ish grey?) or leave it natural light cedar?
Here are some piks of it plain, albeit a bit dark due to lighting. It's hard to see that the ceiling goes up REALLY high on the right side. There's a LOT of ceiling.

Re: Help deciding PAINT colors / choices (PIP)
No painting the ceiling! Cedar is beautiful all on it's own!
and also.... a weather-proof mattress for that daybed is going to run $250 or so. Ughh. seriously?
get creative with me.. what else can we do for a mattress on that thing? It may get misty wet from the rain, although it's pretty well covered up in there. Davez says to fill a nice square cover up with cedar chips. He and Uncle Bloopers would like that very much.
lol.
Why can't you just get an air mattress like you use at the beach and make a canvas cover for it? Or buy a regular blow-up air mattress that you would put on the floor in the house and make a cover for it. They are cheap at places like Walmart and seem durable enough that they would be fine if they got wet and needed to be dried out in the sun if they did.
