Medela Pump In Style question

How often are you to change the membranes out?

Re: Medela Pump In Style question

  • Dont take this the wrong way but Google could answer most of your questions. It takes alot less time to look it up than to type a question here.

  • I changed mine out once in like the 3-4 months I used it, but it was mostly because I started to tear one. I was never sure either, so I'm sure that my response isn't helpful, but I wanted to at least tell you what I did. Google may have answers, but that's why we're here... :-) Ask anything, any time!

  • Thank you IkesHawaiian!!  The reason I asked on here is because I read my manual front to back and it tells me nothing about when to change them out.  I figured I would come on here and get answers from you gals who have actually had experience using them.  :)
  • You are welcome, yeah, I couldn't find when to change them out in the manual either. And the other girl who responded is the troll that randomly posts stuff :-) Don't worry, Google's got nothing on Mom's.

  • Ummmmmmm I've had mine 9 months and I've never changed them out. YIKES!

And don't worry about googling anything - mom's know best, not google.

  • Oh, right, Google it.  Because if it's on the internet it must be true.  Yes, that's a much better idea than asking people you trust with real life experience.

I've had mine 7 months and haven't changed them out, either.  I sanitize them in the dishwasher each night.  I have an extra set and figure I'll replace them when they wear out.

  • Google!  Why didn't we think of that?!?!?!  Because Google has successfully raised so many children, that should've been our first stop with ALL our questions!

LoL.  Why don't people like that just go away?

Isn't that the point of a message board for moms with new babies?

I changed mine out whenever I thought the suction wasn't working as well - probably unnecessary but maybe twice in the 10 months I used it. And onetime when I was at work and the membrane ripped (so if you're planning on pumping at work, throw some extras in your bag!)

  • I've only replaced one membrane that ripped in the first 2 months of use.  I've never just replaced just because...but I only pump about once a week or so to give daddy some milk so I can take a break.

  • Haha, I just replaced mine whenever I lost one down the drain - which meant I replaced them fairly often. Otherwise, like PP said, when they started to loose suction.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't have a helpful answer to give, there is no need to respond at all.
