Babies: 3 - 6 Months

sleeping/napping

I have noticed that the longer LO sleeps at night, the quicker he is ready for a nap in the morning.  For example...normally he sleeps around 10-12 hours.  He usually goes a couple hours until he is ready for a nap, up to 3 hours sometimes. Last night he slept super-long and slept 14 hours! Not the 1st time but it happens once in a while.  He was ready for a nap less than an hour later!  I wonder why???  Just seems strange.

Re: sleeping/napping

  • I don't know the answer, but DD slept from 9-8, woke up, ate and is now back to sleep in my arms.

  • I have always found with both my kids is the more they sleep the more they sleep....My son, who is now 4, use to go down for his morning nap within an hour everyday.  He just could not stay awake long.  And he did that until we dropped the morning nap!
  • Yup this is normal! I read about this (in the Ferber book I believe), where your sleep cycles cause babies to be tired quicker in the morning, even though they just slept all night; and also they are able to stay awake longer in the evenings than any other time of the day.

My DD needs a nap after 90 minutes in the AM, but can go nearly 2 full hours for the rest of her awake times in the day.
