Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Not hungry, waking up, STTN?

So I have been using Suzy Giordano's "The Baby Sleep Solution."  I like it because it is not a CIO, in fact it is quite the opposite.  The long and short of it, is that baby takes in enough ounces during the day, and night feedings are gradually eliminated in a specific order by decreasing the milk taken at night by a 1/2 ounce every three days.

I have to preface by saying that DD took to this method so well and was sleeping 10 hours straight at 6 weeks old.  Then she got really sick with RSV and we took a lot of steps back with sleeping, but for good reason, IMO.  We have been working on it again over the past four weeks, and she is no longer taking any food at night.  She still consistently wakes at 2am and 4 or 5am, but will take the pacifier and go right back to sleep until 7am.  She wakes up happy and pleasant and will wait to nurse until her diaper is changed.

I know I should be thrilled that she is sleeping so well, and I am but a couple of months ago, she would not wake up for the pacifier.  I am not comfortable with CIO.  Any tips for getting her to STTN without the wake ups for her paci?

We did Ferber with DS, and we only had tears at the beginning of the night, not in the middle of the night.  DD is quite the opposite.  She goes down VERY easily, but it sounds like she is in real pain when she wakes twice nightly for the paci.  She also does not suck for long, she spits it out almost simultaneously with closing her eyes.  I always get up right away and go to her, before she gets frantic.  TIA for any help!

Re: Not hungry, waking up, STTN?

  • After my DD had RSV she also stopped sleeping through the night! She was a dream baby for 3 1/2 months! Then wham-everything changed!

My DD also take the pacifier. She too use to go from 0-60 so quick!

She has since outgrown the 0-60 crying fit at night though.

Now I stand in her room (where she can't see me) and let her fuss. It's all she is doing, is fussy now...it usually takes about 15-30minutes and a few pacifier replacements and then she will stay asleep.

She does too still wake up around 1am and then 3 or 4am! But we do still feed her bc she is low in weight.

I guess this is not much help but just saying I'm in the same boat! Hang in there and keep trying different things!
