I had to put my dog down because he was dying of kidney failure and he was in pain. Today he napped under his favorite tree, and he got a truck ride, courtesy of my dad, the biggest softie ever.
Interesting facts about Truman (all family dogs are named for presidents):
husky, beagle, pointer mix --- take that image in for a second
Northeast animal shelter rescue, flown up from West Virginia
He was such a creature of habit, that when his weekend truck rides were disrupted due to truck problems, he demanded to sit in the truck for an hour in the driveway, because, well, that was where he is supposed to be at that hour each Saturday.
He would take his new bone out on the deck and surround himself with 6-10 old bones standing on their ends aka: bonehenge. This would keep his brother away - not sure how or why that worked exactly.
He would not relieve himself during walks - only in the backyard unless desperate. So I would walk him at night, then let him into the backyard to do his business.
He barked once when he wanted to come in, and only once, unless you took more than a couple minutes.
He lived after eating an ENTIRE cd. Then there was the box of chocolates. Oh, the vet knew him well.
