My contractions stopped -- Feeling disappointed

Hi ladies! I just need to vent. About 24 hours ago I started having contractions that reached 5 minutes apart within the first hour. I went to the hospital to find out I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. But after being there for a while, I wasn't making any progress so they sent me home until my contractions got more intense. I was so sure I'd be heading back there last night, but since then my contractions slowed all the way down to nothing. I'm still at home and no longer contracting.

The good news is my baby is doing great. I'm just feeling a bit let down after the excitement of thinking I was going to meet him finally. Has anyone else had their regular contractions stop like that?

    This morning! I haven't gone to the hospital yet, but I had contractions this morning that were "clusters" with each other - but they had spaced out -- now my last one was at least 30 minutes ago - so I know it is going to be a long week.  

    Hang in there.. when our little one is ready, he'll come soon enough!

    Sounds very similar to what happened to me on a Friday afternoon - 2 days later my water broke, so hang in there, I've heard lots of these "thought I was in full blown labor, then it stopped for a couple of days before the real thing" kind of stories.

    Ahhhh...I am sorry that is sooooo frusterating. Maybe you just need a nice relaxing bath and a nap. Sometimes if you are stressed or too tired your body will give you a break so that you can be prepared. If not then a bath and nap might be nice anyway. I had contractions 15 minutes apart for 6 hours on Sun., though I was fine with them stopping as I was not yet full term, but it was frusterating non the less. I hope this is it for you and you have an outside baby soon. My perscription: Bath, Nap, Nice long leisurly walk, followed by your favorite meal and a massage.......ok wait maybe that is my fantasy...but you can borrow it! GL mama! *~*~*~Labor dust*~*~*~*

    I am almost in the exact same boat, except 2cm dilated and 90% effaced...contractions all last night, then just stopped and nothing significant today, except for bad lower back pain.  I'm going to go for a walk soon, I think it will help. Hang in there!

    Sorry to hear. 

    I went to the hospital last night, but I wasn't as far along as you.  It's amazing how you can go through the day with so much pain and contractions and go to the hospital for them to stop.  

    Good luck and glad baby is doing well.

    Thanks everyone for the support! It's good to know I'm not the only one. I think a nice nap and then a walk are in order. :)
