1st Trimester

Did you get many BFN before getting the BFP?

Hey,

Well I'm on 28 days since my last period and I have NO sign of AF. However, I do have early pregnancy signs including: nausea, fatigue, low-grade fever, increase CM, increase in gasiness, and prominent blue veins on my chest.

I'm assuming that I ovulated the day DH and I did the BD (Thursday, March 11th) which would put me at 13DPO. I tested at 11DPO, 12DPO and 13DPO and they all resulted in a BFN.

I feel so pregnant! I'm wondering if there are similiar situations out there that resulted in a BFP???

Thanks in advance! -JD

Have you been pregnant before?  If not, how do you know that you feel pregnant?
  • Loading the player...
  • You probably ovulated later than you think. Phantom symptoms are very common. The only proof of being pregnant is a + HPT. Take a HPT 1x per week. If no BFP and no AF by 60 days since your LMP then call your OBGYN.

     Good luck!

BTW, to answer your question, no, I didn't see any negative tests before I got my BFP at 10 dpo.

  • I hate to tell you this because hope is such a great thing to hold on to sometimes. If you are pregnant enough to have symptoms you are enough to have a postive test. You probably have phantom symptoms.

  • For me, I only felt pregnant when I wasn't. I had every symptom until I actually was PG!  At 10dpo though, with both pregnancies, I had a BFP.

You could have a late implanter though. Are you testing with FMU? I would wait a few days and try again.

  • What's making you assume that you O'd on March 11th? Did you chart? Use OPK's?

You could have ovulated later than you thought, you could be pregnant but you're testing too early, or you could not be pregnant and are just focusing on your body more than ever before so your "symptoms" may not be related to pregnancy whatsoever.

  • Did you not like the answers you got on TTGP?

I'll repeat mine - If you are pregnant enough for symptoms, you are pregnant enough to turn a test positive.  If the tests are negative, the symptoms are related to something besides pregnancy.

  • No, I haven't been pregnant before. So it's probably really silly of me to say I feel pregnant.

I just haven't been feeling normal and the nausea has been pretty annoying and constant but, I don't know, maybe I have a touch of the flu or something.

    ::gives side eye to OP::

To answer your question, yes, I had BFN up until my BFP, I even had a BFN the night before we found out.

I also second PP saying if you're pregnant enough for symptoms, you're pregnant enough to get a positive test.

This was not true for me when we conceived DD. I was sick right away and my boobs were so sore that riding in the car was unbearable just four days after conception I was throwing up. I didn't get a BFP test until about two weeks later. As you can see by my siggy, I was in fact pg.

I got a couple of BFN's this time around as well, before getting a BFP. I knew I was pg though. I would start taking vitamins and keep testing if I were you.

  • I did, several negatives on fact. I finally got a positive 3 days after AF was late. Have you POAS yet?

  • Actually, I've already pushed my ovulation back by 2 days. I haven't been charting BBT, just averaging a 27 day cycle and assuming that I ovulate 14 days before my next expected period. DH and I aren't TTC right now, so I haven't felt the need to be more thorough in my family planning. We just abstain from having SEX :) when I may be ovulating.

Thanks for your advice. It's probably good that I try to keep my hopes in check. Even though DH and I weren't trying, we would be more than excited if I was!

  • Thanks for your honestly. It's probably good that I keep my hopes in check. I wasn't even actually TTC this month. I just have been feeling ill and thought it maybe because I was PG!
  • I had a BFN, but I tested WAY too early. I wanted to drink at a party and figured I'd better be on the safe side. Test was negative. Two weeks later, it was BFP. I should point out that two weeks later was the day AF was due, if you have a longer cycle, don't try to speed up the tests. I had a 5-week.

ETA: Just saw that you're posting this on multiple boards. Unless you have a very thick skin or LIKE to be flamed, don't do that. People get nasty. Including me :P

I hate to tell you this but the sore boobs were probably related to increased progesterone from ovulation and the throwing up was not related to pregnancy.  You were probably sick or something.  There is no way you had any hCG in your system 4 days after conception.  Implantation doesn't even happen until 7-10 dpo and that's when hCG production starts.

I had plenty of symptoms before I got a positive result. The whole time I knew I was pregnant so I wouldnt necessarily agree with your post.

You know what they say about assuming... :)

Seriously, if you aren't TTC then you should either use condoms, be on BCP, or chart to avoid. My cycle was 28 days and I was ovulating on CD20. Better safe than sorry if you aren't TTC.

  • No. We weren't TTC this month so I haven't been charting at all. I've just have been basing my OV on my average 27 day cycle.

Thanks for your advice. I know I'm getting pretty obsessed about it. I should just rest and wait to see what comes.

Do you know how many people post on TTGP/BOTB/every other TTC board on the planet every day who just KNOW they are pregnant...and lo and behold they are not?

Yeah this method won't work, I ovulated on CD24 on I normally had 29 day cycles.  You probably ovulated late.

  • I tested the day AF was due: BFN. About 4 days after missed AF: BFN. Took another 8 days after missing AF and got another BFN. I didn't get a BFP until 2 weeks after I missed AF. I took that test because the night before, I was exhausted, my back hurt and I felt icky. I tried with FMU and that's when it came out positive. Good luck!

I second this, I was "pregnant" many cycles before getting a positive HPT. 4 days after conception is way too early to be experiencing anything pregnancy related.

  • With my first pregnancy, I didn't get any positive tests until 14DPO, using my first morning pee, and using a Clearblue Digital.

This pregnancy, I got a BFP at 11DPO (also with a Clearblue Digital) but had gotten negatives with FR early result non-digital tests.

I experienced a month where I "knew" I was pregnant. I had every symptom under the sun and took about four tests over the course of the month. After I had my period, I even wondered if I could still be pregnant because it was really light.

When you want it that bad, you can make things up in your head. Maybe this is a good opportunity for you to talk to your husband about when you do want to start trying.

    Good luck!

Hey there OP. As I said before POAS and confirm if you are PG or not. If you are concerned about being sick I would see a doctor. If you are not actively trying its best to continue with condoms or chart to avoid as other posters have suggested. It tends to touch a nerve when someone gets "accidentally" pregnant and posts about it on TTGP. As I say, I know you are new and probably didn't know that. The best thing to do is lurk and make good use of the search function I mentioned at the bottom of the page. You can get a lot of your questions answered by just reading through posts.

I know you are new so you probably don't know that once you make a post that it is usually against protocol to DD it (Dirty Delete). I know that other posters told you to ask first tri, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to delete the other post. I think part of the reason this irks people is because it messes with their post count. It also makes them give you the side-eye. You are new so I am not sure if you know.

Keep lurking and you will see what we mean. Good luck.
