Driving range while prego?

Maybe a dumb question, but has anyone gone to the driving range while pregnant?  I guess my main concern is that I am not a golfer, DH is a die hard golfer, and now that the weather is getting nicer, he thought maybe I might want to go with him to the driving range...since I don't golf, I don't really know how strenuous swinging a club is or if I will be all off balance because of my belly.  Any thoughts on this?

    You will be fine.

  • I think its absolutely fine! Especially if he is a golfer, he should be able to let you know what you can do (i.e-don't swing hard!!). Chipping is just as much fun-stretch first...and if you get out there and feel unfortable about it, just stop and enjoy the sunshine with him and the baby!
  • My belly has improved my swing! haha keeps my arms straightened out!

  • I live on a golf course and love love love to golf.  I think you will be fine, it will probably help your game because you can keep your arms more straight on in front of you, just be care on your back swing it usually causes for you to twist your torso which will be a little bit harder.  If you are just a beginner then it should be no pressure just got out and have a great time Smile
  • I am sure it will be fine. Just rmemeber you balance is going to be off and don't over-do it. :) have fun! that actually sounds fun, maybe i'll take dh to the range this weekend.
  • I personally wouldn't do it because you have to do a lot of twisting. I just asked my husband who also is a semi-pro golfer and he was skeptical. Especially for a beginner. I would ask your doctor though.

I second the chipping since it's more low impact, I just wouldn't try to drive it too far. Putting would also be fun.

  • Its about as strenuous as loading a dishwasher. You'll be fine.

  • I'd say go for it, it's not like you're playing a PGA18 hole day of golf. When you've had it, you can just relax and watch the hubs. Hell, my husband is a police officer and asked the OB if we could go to the shooting range and shoot guns. I thought he'd give a more than emphatic no, but the dr gave us the go ahead and was pretty stoked about it lol. Ask your OB to be on the safer side, and if worse comes to worse, go bask in some sunshine and watch :)
  • Thanks ladies - I went and it was actually really fun.  I hit one bucket of balls and DH said for my first time I did outstanding!  So I will definitely try it again!  :o)
  • Sorry i'm responding so late, but I had to actually do some research tonight for work.

Anyway I just wanted to add my two cents.  I am very new at golf and the few times I've gone I have gotten a really sore lower back because I swing the club so hard.

Also, I am a softball player so it is taking me forever to figure out a good golf swing v. a softball/baseball swing.  So it was really painful for me the first few times I went, but only because I'm crazy competitive and swung the stupid club like a million times to try to straighten out my swing (which kept veering to the right because apparently I was opening up the club or something).

Anway have fun! I think golf is great and I'll be playing some more this summer since I definitely can't play softball :)
