I'm going to a teacher job fair on April 10th. What happens at one? Do you just go around talking to people? I've never been to any type of job fair before. I'm guessing dress professionally? The website says to take your resume and proof of certification.
TIA!
I'm moving to Austin!!!! AHHHH! Sorry, still super excited!
Re: XP: Teacher job fair Question
The last one I went to was YEARS ago, but I did dress professionally and came stocked with copies of my resume, as well as my portfolio. There were tables set up for different school districts, and I went around to the ones I was interested in working at and talked to their representatives.
:-)
I used to coordinate the job fairs at TX State...so I can speak to how university fairs are. Usually there are a ton of tables where the HR reps from various districts are set up. You just go around & talk to the reps. It helps if you can see ahead of time who is going to be there so that you can learn more about the districts you're interested in (and wow them with your knowledge).
At the TX State job fair, the first half was dedicated to chatting up the reps & then they actually scheduled interviews for later in the day with the job seekers. Not sure if that's typical.
Be sure to dress professionally & bring plenty of copies of your resume.
Def dress professional--it can get warm, so maybe don't wear long sleeves or wear a light sweater that you can take off. I've been to one for just one district before. There were a lot of tables--it was for AISD. Some schools had long lines, others did not. (I think elementary had the most lines). Some people I talked to about the positions right there. Some schools were setting up times for interviews later on.
Bring a ton of copies of your resume. I was still student teaching at the time, so I didn't have my certification. I don't remember ever being asked though.
GL!!!
