2nd Trimester

Thoughts on beginning leave early?

I'm due Aug 28th with my first, and would really prefer to work right up to labor so I can maximize time at home with the baby; I'll have only 7wks of paid accruals. But I work on a college campus, and the fall orientation begins Aug 22/23rd, which is one of the most hectic times of the year. Ideally, I'll go into labor early to avoid the whole issue (my mom and grandmothers both did); my office is aware of the timing, and could modify my responsibilities a bit. But do you think it's better to ask for medical leave for orientation so the office can just plan on my being out for  the period, and I don't have the stress? Or would you still suck it up and do what you can?

I'm taking a much longer leave (6 months) so I am planning on leaving work about 2 weeks before my due date.  I would like time home to get things in order, freeze some meals, and just rest.
  • I would suck it up and work til labor, but if you feel like it would affect your job performance then take then week off and relax.

This.  I was in a really hectic job when pregnant with DS and decided to take off a week before my due date.  Then I was a week late.  Those were some pretty miserable 2 weeks.  This time I'm definitely working until the end.  Good luck!

  • I would try to work until the end too.  Maybe you wont go into labor early and would have wanted to work longer to have longer time off after the baby. Besides if you go into labor early then they will have to work around it anyway:)

I worked 50 hours a wk until a few days before I delivered. I was 8 days late. Those few days I took off, I went stir crazy & my anxiety went sky high.?

  • I worked until I was put on bedrest at 30 weeks.  I would have worked until I had DS if I could have.

  • Thanks for all of the input :) It's just really hard to imagine what I'll feel like at that point and what would work best, I appreciate it!
