Mom/Baby Classes

Hey Girls!  Its been a while but I am back in Atlanta now that my husband is back from Afghanistan.  I feel like I really need to find something to do with Adam where he is around other kids, even if just for an hour a week.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'm open to some type of Baby/Mom classes but I'm not sure which ones are actually good here.  We tried going to the YMCA and I left him in the childcare which ended up as a total disaster so I need something that I can do with him.  Thanks for the help!  You all always know the best places.

Re: Mom/Baby Classes

  • Welcome back, I just wanted to say that I very happy that your hubby is back. Mine is in Afghanistan right now Sad but he should be home in May!!! I don't really have any recs since my LO is just three months old. I'm sure other ladies here will be able to give you some good ideas!

The Dekalb County Libraries have a program for little ones that I took one DD to once called building blocks.  The other libraries may also have them too.  The thing I liked about it was that it's free.  It was a little overwhelming though.  My DD was one of the younger ones there (She was around 13 months) and there were 25 kids and about an equal number of adults.  Basically there are a whole bunch of toys to play with for a while and then they put those away and get a bin out of books and you read to your DC for a little while and then there are some songs in a circle.  DD pretty much watched everyone else for the entire time, but the kids seemed to be having a good time.  However, I'm sure if we did it several times that she'd be just as into it as everyone else!   Definitely check out your local library though.  They tend to have something going on and free is always good!

  • Glad you are back.  I started Gymboree with Ridge when he was 3 months and Colton 6 months.  It was good for both of us.

We are also doing The Music Class but I think that is more 12 month plus.

  • Oh, Pottery Barn Kids also has book reading and singing for free.  And the library has story time too.  And so does Little Shop of Stories in Decatur.
  • just wanted to add that our Y has a mommy and me workout class where you can bring (and use) your baby in the class, might want to check to see if yours does, this way you can get your workout on.

  • Thanks!  I didn't even think of the library.  Great idea!

Roci26, I'm sorry your husband is gone.  I know its very tiring to take care of a new baby alone.  I'm glad he is coming home in May.  I was a little scarred my DH would be slow to pick up on taking care of Adam since he hadn't ever been around babies, but it was amazing how quickly he picked it up.  It's like he's been here the whole time.
