daycare supplies must haves

E is starting daycare.  DH is now teaching at 2 colleges (he still hasn't found an advertising job.)  What are things you consider must haves?

we have the tiny mables labels.  should i get the clothing ones too?

inch bug labels or just go with the mables?

Re: daycare supplies must haves

  • ask your daycaare if you need to provide crib sheets.

You will also need to provide a few changes of clothes, bibs, dipes, wipes, formula, food, etc.  I like the inchbug labels to label bottles but I think you can use the mabels labels to do the same thing.

  • I really like the inchbug labels because you can than use them for sippy cups too.  Also, masking tape is great for writing the date.

Things to think about bringing in:

sunscreen, hat for going outside, 2-3 changes of clothes, diapers, wipes, a little jacket to keep there, diaper cream.  The daycares usually have bibs and blankets.

  • We just used the mable labels for bottles and clothes. I dated the bottles using blue painters tape. It comes easily.

I always had 2 change of clothes at daycare for B.

And I took one of the like 48 count diaper packages with his name all over it so they would have enough for at least a week or so.

That's all we had to provide. Until he got to baby food then I just took each day's worth of food in the morning with his name on the jars.

  • You need to find out what they provide. We didn't have to bring in wipes, crib sheets, bibs, diaper cream etc.

  • I had both- inchbug and mabels labels (I bought a camp pack- has lots of sizes).  I could have gotten by with just the mabels, but I loved the bottle bands and still use them on his sippy cups now.  We had them in 2 colors and I used the different colors to differentiate between BM and formula so the teachers knew which ones to use first.  As for clothing, I just stuck the tiny mabels labels on his tags and never had a problem.  Only did that in the infant room, don't bother with it anymore.  I only send cheapo clothes anyway so if someone else gets them its no biggie.  I also had a couple bottle bags.  I made his bottles the night before- complete with labels and dates- and put them in the bag in the fridge.  Then just grabbed that in the morning and ran out the door.  I basically just had a set of "daycare clothes" that I sent to daycare.  Mostly Carters onesies, pants, socks.  Just cheap clothes that I knew only went there.  I'd just send a bag full of stuff at the beginning of the week and they'd use them as needed.  I'd bring it back the next Monday.

  • The best thing to do is ask your daycare.  They know which things are needed and which aren't. E.g. my school provides each child with their own bag (and name tag...they expect you to use this bag not any other bag too).  Labels of course are a must, first and last names, bottle/sippy cup and lids too.  I put the change of clothes in a ziploc baggies w/ the name on the outside (as opposed to each and every article of clothing).  I use masking tape to date the bottles (or used to anyways).  buy some permanent markers & masking tape they are your friends! :-)  If he is going in the infant room (sleeping in a crib), most daycares following state guidelines have to have babies in a sleep sack, not a blanket in the crib.  If he's going in the toddler, you can have a blanket (labeled...with masking tape and his name).  utensils even..i buy the plastic take n toss ones and write in permanent marker on the handle.  Our school requires a new crib sheet (porta crib size) every day but a blanket can be left for the whole 5 days.  You also need to bring in 3 sippy cups a day for the todller room.

my point to all this, every school is diff...find out what they recommend/mandate :-)  Good luck to both of you! :-)

  • Thanks for all of the advice ladies!  Very good things to think about.  I finially found the "infant List"  in the parents handbook last night.

    INFANT INFORMATION
For infants, you will need to bring a clean pack and play size sheet; 3 to 4 prepared bottles of formula or breast milk,
labeled with the child?s first and last name; jar food or cereal also labeled; Velcro bibs; extra clothes; diapers; and
immunization certificate ? form 3231. If you like, you may provide a mobile for the crib. Once a month, please bring a
box of tissues and some baby wipes.
