Survival Kit?

Just curious....how many of you have a survival kit for your family? Do you have a plan like if the phones were all shut down would you know where to meet family?

Sorry if this question is out of the blue I am just starting to work on this in light of all of the natural disasters taking place and I was wondering does it make me a little coo coo or if others have it on their minds too :)

FYI I'm using ready.gov to get my list together

    We watched 2012 the other day (very cheesey movie, but still...) it got us talking about some sort of survival kit.  Right now all we have is about 2 gallons of water and flashlight and a lantern and extra batteries.  We've always had that though, in our closet under the stairwell, where we would go if there was a tornado or the weather warnings go off!   I probably need more stuff, like documents, cash, etc.

    We've talked about where to go if there was a tornado or a fire but that's about it.

    I think it is a smart thing to do... especially when you have kids. We have some things put together mostly first aid stuff.?

    I can't tell you how excited I am that you're actually using ready.gov!  I work in emergency mgmt for the government so I'm super OCD about personal preparedness.  A few quick things: it's suggested to have enough food for 3 days (I do 5 days) and also, consider getting a weather radio.  They're not expensive, you can get them at the grocery store, and they're really useful especially during the tornado season.

    We have nothing prepared, but that is such a great idea.  All these terrible things that have happened lately is very scary.

    get a weather radio for sure!! in the southeast, a lot of our severe weather occurs at night. I can't remember the statistic exactly, but while the plains have a much larger percentage of the total amount of tornados/severe weather, the southeast has a larger percentage of the deaths mainly because they occur more often at night here.
