scariest thing last night- our garage door broke at 2:30AM!!!

Last night we got the scare of our lives at 2:30AM. We heard the loudest sound and thought someone was either trying to break into our garage or an animal got in and was trying to escape. Turns out the spring on one side of our garage door snapped and ricocheted off the garage wall- THANK GOD no one was there because that seriously could have killed someone, and amazingly it didn't hit my car! The garage is right under our bedroom so it scared the living sh!t out of us.
Anyway, we need to have someone come and repair this for us. It not a whole new system- just a repair. What a pain in the butt.

  • Yikes!! Very scary!!!  This happened to us, recently too, though not in the middle of the night.

The spring can be picked up at Lowe's for under $10 and is a super easy repair if you guys are up for fixing it yourself!

I would have had a heart attack!  I get freaked out by even the smallest sounds!  Hope it's an easy fix!

  • Wow, I bet your mother's instinct was kicking in there tenfold!  I've noticed for me since about the sixth month of pregnancy that I'm sleeping lighter and analyzing every sound a little more.

My DH even jokingly brought his machete (which he got to de-thistle our garden when we moved in) in to our bedroom for our "protection".  Sadly enough, I feel a little better having it there even though I have no idea how it would help...

Sorry your garage went haywire, but I'm very happy for you that it wasn't a person or a wild animal!

yea, you are right. My Dad came over to take a look and he said he can fix it for us during the week- all it needs is new springs and cables. He's retired and loves to do this kinda thing. I thought it was a bigger job than it really is.

  • This happened to us one time right after I had pulled into the garage after having gone out with friends for a couple of drinks.  I was in no way drunk, or even tipsy, but I was so scared by that loud sound I actually thought that I may have accidentally put the car in Reverse instead of Park and then hit the door.  DH ran into the garage thinking the same thing.  Luckily the next time we heard that sound we knew what it was. Smile
  • I never heard of this happening until now. And everyone I have told know about it and has heard of it happening. So scary!

  • OMG!!! This happened in our house when I was a little girl. If I remember right, it was also in the middle of the night.  It was a terrifying sound.  Extremely loud. I was shaking all the way down to my toes! Surprise
