Just curious.

I am originally a Midwestener (Southern Illinois- close to St. Louis.) Moved here due to my husband's government job. Been here around 5 years and wish I knew more people, but I tend to be a bit reserved! Need to work on that!

I'm from this area. We moved to Herndon in '84. I went away to college (Blacksburg), but moved back to the area after graduation.

I grew up here, went away for college and one year of volunteer work post-college, came back for a few years, went away for grad school, came back again. Even so, I wouldn't say that I know tons of people here. Most of the people I grew up with are all over the place now. It's a transient area for sure.

I am from NE PA and DH is from North Jersey so not from this area either. I have been here over 10 years although that makes me feel old. I moved down soon after college to find a job and DH was in the military and stayed after he got out.

I'm from North Jersey (and "identify Jersey"). I wouldn't say I have a ton of close friends here, but the ones I have are from grad school group (I went to American). Some of us graduated and got jobs in/near DC, most moved away.

I'm a midwesterner too! Grew up outside of Chicago. I went to college in Ohio and met DH there. Then, we moved to Boston for 5 years. We just moved here six months ago and are hoping to be here to stay.

We lived here until I was 4, but I really grew up in NC. Went to college in Indiana, then moved here 8 years ago. DH is from the area. I love the area but he has an awful commute so would love to move!

I'm from Maine but lived in SW Indiana before moving here in '06. It's weird that the area is so transient yet most of my friends grew up here. We're not sure yet if we are here for good.

I'm from Pittsburgh. Spent the first 21.5 years of my life there and then moved here with the DH (FI at the time). We lived in Fairfax for a year and a half and then moved to Haymarket

Tracey, where in NE PA are you from? My DH is from the Wilkes-Barre area.

We aren't from here either. I am from the suburbs of NYC and like I said, DH is from PA. DH moved down here when we started dating for his job (he's an attorney) and I moved down after we were engaged. We originally lived in Arlington, and now we have a house in Centreville.

Would love to meet more of you Nesties in Fairfax County!! I have lived down here for 3 years now and I also don't feel like I know that many people.

DH and I grew up 1 mile away from each other here in Del Ray. We both went to college in the Boston area (him in Cambridge, me in Wellesley). He moved to Houston while I stayed in Boston for a few years after graduation, then we both moved back here and lived in Old Town before buying a house in Del Ray. Now, we live a 5 minute walk from where he grew up (and where his parents still live) and a 20 minute walk from where I grew up (and where my parents still live).

What I love most about living here still is that we regularly see people we knew growing up. Our son will attend the schools that I went to (DH went to private school) and there is just something nostalgic about being here.

I grew up in Vienna and DH grew up in Falls Church. He went to Mason for college (and he went to Mason HS as well) and I went to Mary Washington...I then moved down to Richmond for law school.

We now live in Vienna (in the same neighborhood where I grew up).

Although we're both from here, most of our close friends are not people we grew up with but people we met in/after college.

From 5 on- we were in Annapolis. I went to college in Colorado, lived in Denver post-graduation for 18 months and then came home for the Christmas holidays with no intention of staying. Well, ended up getting a job in Bethesda, stayed there for 10 years and then DH convinced me to move to the other side of the river. DH is from Minnesota and ended up here post-military for a job.

We love it here!

I was born in Montgomery County and still live here. Went away to college for one year (to Mary Washington, same as Gigs2000) then to UMD. DH is from Ohio, went to college there and moved here for his first job in 2000. We plan on staying.

My family moved to the Chantilly area in '86 and I graduated from Chantilly HS in '88. Other than going away for college I've lived here in the NOVA area since then (longer than the other couple places we lived). DH was born in Faifax Hospital (along with our children) and went to the same pediatrician's office that I currently take DS. He went away to JMU and then worked out of town during the week for about a year, but other than that he has lived in the NOVA area his whole life.

Wow, I assumed more people on the board were not from the DC area.

I was born at Holy Cross, grew up in Silver Spring, and went to UMCP. After college, I became a traitor and moved to NoVa, to the shock of many. The only time I haven't lived in the DC area was for grad school when I was in NYC.

DH is from North/central Jersey, but went to undergrad here. After the army, he split his time between DC and Jersey. I anticipate we're here to stay, though we have dreams of living overseas for a couple of years at some point.

H and I are both from Jacksonville, FL. We both we to undergrad in Tallahassee. He moved here in Aug of 2001 to go to American for grad school. I decided to come up in October of 2001. I left for a year to go to grad school in Philly. Between the two of us we've lived in Annapolis, Mitchellville, Manassas, City of Alexandria and now Alexandria (Fairfax county). We love it here but often wonder if this is our final home. The COL is high and all of our family is in FL. I've developed friendships in very random places including kickball, the knot, Third Edition (we picked one another up while ordering drinks) and a random Memorial day party. We attend church so that has widened our circle as well.

DH was born here but lived in Connecticut for a few years before moving back here. We went to "rival" high schools, both went to Tech, but didn't meet until after graduation. We even have similar friends but never met

I'm not and I don't live in the area anymore either We are from Central Va but I was an Air Force brat so I consider myself from everywhere - including near St Louis or Scott AFB. (there from 91-95)

We lived in DC for a year after getting married then decided to move back to the *ahem* country life.

I was born and raised in Dallas, TX, but I moved to Lancaster, PA when I was a junior in HS. My family still lives in Lancaster and definately consider it home DH was born and raised in Lancaster, PA.

Just south of there actually. I grew up in Bangor, PA which is about 15 min south of Stroudsburg.

DH graduated from Hackensack High - were from near there?

DH graduated from Mason HS in '87 (well before your time) but his sister graduated in '92.

Moved to DC/Arlington while active duty in the Air Force in 98, got out, stayed in the area ever since. ... have lived all over the NCR and now Ashburn.
