How long did you track diapers, feeding, sleep etc?

It's been helpful in these first two weeks but I'm wondering how long we should keep track of everything.  I have a great app on my phone that makes it fairly easy but I'm curious how long others tracked this stuff?

Re: How long did you track diapers, feeding, sleep etc?

  • I gave up tracking when i became obsessed with the fact that DS hadnt pooped once in a day...i even went as far as calling the pedi and even he told me i was going to drive myself nuts...
  • Loading the player...
  • i mentally tracked and continue to but don't obsess over it. to figure out which boob needs feeding on i go with the one thats leaking/begging to be emptied. if you aren't already obsessive compulsive, tracking your baby's every poop, feeding, etc (especially on an app or gadget) will make you go there.
  • We don't track diapers, but I still write down her naps and when she eats. I like to see patterns.

  • For the first week, but only because DD was on a bili-blanket for jaundice, and the nurse asked us to. Generally, DD would eat every few hours and poo after just about every feeding... so I didn't see a need to track it anymore. I never really tracked the sleep- babies will sleep when they get tired (generally).

  • I'm still tracking feedings because DS still has a tendency to not eat enough if I don't stay on top of it.  I quit tracking diapers because I change him with every feeding and he almost always has a wet and poopy diaper.  I've never tracked his sleep.

  • I'm still tracking at 2 months.  I track his eating to help keep track of how much he's taking in.

Sleep: I only really pay attention to if he seems to be changing his sleep patterns.

Diapers: Again, if things seem out of ordinary, I start tracking more religiously.

  • I stopped tracking after my 1week appointment when DS had gained past his birth weight already.  Pedi said I didn't have to anymore.

I mentally keep note of what he's doing though and if something seems off I'll track more carefully.

  • I started driving myself batty ... so I stopped tracking a few days ago ... when dd was about a week and a half ... she's gaining, pooping ALL the time, peeing ALL the time, sleeping, eating frequently ... I figure she's fine ...
  • never did....pedi said not to bother unless an issue cropped up

  • I only did in the hospital, with both my kids.  I never found it that hard to remember about how long they had been sleeping, what breast I used last, and they both gained weight appropriately so I never woke to feed.  We followed the schedule our DD set, and now our DS.

  • I never tracked anything after we left the hospital.

  • I only tracked feedings, what side and how long, and when she pooped/peed for the first week and a half.  Shes been regular - except the growth spurt feedings today.
  • I only tracked for a few days, and stopped after he finished with the bili lights.  I use a bracelet to track which boob I fed from last.  Other than that, I found that writing everything down was making me nuts.

  • About a week. She settled into a routine and I didn't have the energy to keep up.
