1st Trimester

bleeding like crazy with clots, why didnt my DR tell me~

I posted this earlier and got some responses that have calmed me down and now I feel a bit irritated, with my doctor that is!

On Thursday I had a gush of bright red bleeding and two clots after a great time in the sack with the hubby and  of course ran right to the emergency room!

I was told I had Subchorionic Hemorrhage... baby was fine great heartbeat of 133 bpm and measuring ahead of my due date, now my irritation is with the fact that my doctor didnt tell me about a hemmorage on the ultrasound. I mean I had my second OB apppoint with him that same morning, why didnt he say anything? Why dont docotors tell us every detail!

Are they afraid of us knowing everything and becoming a basketcase ringing their offices at all hours of the day? I guess thats what they prefer, basket case curious women!

I just feel that if they gave us all the answers and kept us in the full loop, we might be able to calm down and keep it togther and not worry ourselves into worse scenarios.

Do any of the other moms on here agree with me!

  • That is weird that your Dr. didn't tell you about it at your appt., that is a pretty important thing to discuss with you. I don't know much about subchorionic hemmorhage, don't know why he would withhold that information from you. I hope most dr.'s try to keep us informed, mine is pretty good at answering all my questions and concerns. Sorry that had to happen to you! KUP!

  • I think sometimes there really do not know what is going to happen in the 1st trimester.  With this pregnancy, they said that they saw something like a hemorrhage at my first appointment.  And I got a pap smear at my first appointment.  They said that there should only be spotting.  The next day the pergestational hemorrhage--lots of blood and huge clot--I really thought it was the baby. I was really bleeding so I took the bus, and got the triage nurse on the phone--it was kinda funny because she was asked if I wanted to come to check to see if there was still a heatbeat--and I was like I am outside of the door of the obgyn practice.  So they immediately got me in and then I had a checkup a week later.  It feels like they are more confident after a NT Scan and especially the 20 week ultrasound.  My spotting stopped after I stopped my progesterone tablets after 10 weeks--and there has been no bleeding--it meant the world to hear after the 20 week ultrasound to hear that it was Ft Knox down there.

I would also like to add with my previous pregnancies that ended in miscarriage--it could have gone either way--I really depended on the obgyn to tell me that everything was okay with the pregnancy.

  • Sorry all of this is happening to you!  GL!
  • I agree, but maybe he didn't know.
  • He might not have seen it....
  • They missed an entire baby at my first appointment.  If you weren't having complications they weren't going to take the time to look for something like that.

  • Most likely the doctor didn't see the SCH on the initial u/s.  I had an SCH with this pregnancy and the doctor and the u/s tech both told me that unless they are specifically looking for a cause of bleeding an SCH is terribly difficult to identify.
  • I find that very weird, too.  I wouldn't think that a hemorrhage can just appear over a few hours.  I'd think it would have to have been there (even if it was smaller at the time), so maybe he just thought it was too small to clot and would go away?  I don't know about those things, but it's pretty crappy if him not to tell you.  Especially when I know it can often lead to clotting blood that would OBVIOUSLY freak you out!
