I'm 31 and have never had a cold sore in my life. Since my BFP, I've had 3 incidents! I'm just getting over one I "sprouted" about a week and a half ago and I wake up with another one today!
I was thinking about calling my PCP for a Valtrax prescription. I see it's category B, so that probably wouldn't be a problem. And I've read that they do prescribe Valtrax for cold sores.
Anyone take it in the past or currently taking it?

So annoying....SORRY!
I think they usually prescribe a different med for cold sores and herpes to pregnant women, can't remember what it is, and I think they are hesitant to prescribe it in the 1st trimester. Really, if possible, you should avoid any medication if possible, especially in the 1st trimester. For example, I'm on allergy and asthma prescriptions that are considered safe (cat
, but one of their first questions was what happens when I come off of them. They would have preferred I not be on any meds, but I can't breathe properly when I'm not on them, and that was the greater of the two evils. I'm just saying that even if it's cat B, if it's not absolutely necessary, I would consider waiting until later on to use an prescription meds.
I'm using Abreva now, but it's not really helping any more than chap stick helped it the first go-around.
I'm just a week away from my 2nd tri.

I have used it once. I felt a cold sore starting 2 days before my wedding. A good friend of mine uses Valtrex (for cold sores) and she gave me 2 of her's. The cold sore never came to the surface and just went away. It seriously saved me!! I don't know about using it while PG though.

Blog a Log
I've always had coldsores and wasn't alarmed at all but, I had one pop up right before my first appt with my doc and she did NOT like seeing it and was really concerned about contamination to other areas so she prescribed the generic Zovarax. I only had to take it for 3 days and it cleared up my sores within a few days.
This is EXACTLY what worries me too! Thanks so much for sharing!
