Okay this has been driving me nuts since we started bottle/formula feeding 2 1/2 weeks ago...I know it's not a HUGE difference, but Lucas eats so little, esp right now b/c he's sick so it's stressing me out to know exactly how much he's eating and an ounce or two at each bottle makes a big difference to me.
This is probably totally dumb though - Okay...I measure out, say, 4 ounces in my Pyrex cup and warm it up. It's clearly 4 ounces of water.
We use the Playtex drop in system and whenever I pour the water in (whether I use the "expandable" drop or the Target brand non expandable) the water is always up more than 4 ounces. Not just a little bit, but usually almost an entire ounce.
I know the measuring cup is correct, obviously, but why can it not just be the same on the damn bottle?! lol
Then once you add in the formula, you're adding even a bit more, so what the heck to do you count it as? In my head I know there was only truly 4 oz. of liquid to start, but then when it says, say 5 on on the bottle, then adding the formula and we're up to close to 6 oz...WTF?
I totally know I am over thinking this and shouldn't stress about it, but I had to ask. Thoughts?
Re: Bottle/Ounces measurement Question
I would trust the measuring cup. I have found the drop-ins measurements inaccurate also.
And of course, always add the formula to the pre-measured water. So yes, a 4 oz bottle will end up closer to 5. Don't stress!
