It is a big deal here.

St. Patty's day 'happens' to fall on Evacuation Day, which is the anniversary of the day that the British soldiers left Boston. It is a city holiday, so courts and state offices are closed for the Mayhem.

Its cool. I"m very Irish and I don't celebrate it now (though in college....). Mostly because of what St. Patrick represents. Instead, we celebrate All Snakes Day!

I was just thinking this this morning. A local country club had an ad on the radio about their drink specials, celebrations etc? If someone could please tell me WTF a bikini contest has to do with St. Patrick's Day, I would appreciate it.

I'm glad you explained that! I was then thinking what kind of country club has a mechanical bull? I was hoping I finally found a country club I could afford the initiation fee.

Just to give you an idea of how crazy it gets in Chicago,

After last year they cancelled the South Side Irish parade.

As in, the neighborhood where the people of Irish decent have lived for over 100 years can't stand the madness that this day has become and called. off. the. parade. Indifferent

They got sick of northsiders coming down by the busloads (literally) and puking on their lawns.

I'm all Irish, and I'm all for dying the river green and everything, but things have gone waaaaaay overboard.
