tl;dr - Elizabeth Marie was born 4/15 at 11:44 am. DH and I are completely blissed out.
The long version - Monday morning I woke up to an email from my labor buddy (shoutout @dixon813) that she was heading to the hospital. I was extremely excited for her and just a tad disappointed in myself. Here I was, 4 days overdue and I had nothing going on. As I waited for her updates I posted on the board encouragement for my LB and headed off to my doctors appointment.
I had made progress from 1 to 2 in the last week, and I was having noticeable small contractions. Doc stripped my membranes (ouch) and sent me on my way with an induction date of Friday morning.
Well, contractions picked up after that. At 8:30 DH went into work. At 11:30 I called my work and said not to expect me at all, and I told my DH to come home now bearing a large lunch for me. Contractions were painful but I was managing. I would like to say I was one of the quiet, graceful women in labor. Not so much. Each contraction had me moaning like a large animal in heat. Classy.
I labored in the tub until 3pm and we went in. I was a 4 so they sent me up to L&D. I wanted the meds but my severe needle phobia made the whole iv process a nightmare. I was 6 by the time the nurses and DH got me through it and they gave me something to make me woozy. I was too out of it to get worked up about the epidural and it was super easy and worked wonderfully.
I was completely pain free and they let me sleep and labor down until the next morning. When I stared pushing the nurses praised my effort even though I could not feel anything because if the meds. But the baby was not moving down as fast as they wanted so we started this horrid dance... Add pitocin, turn down epi. Push push push. Turn down epi, push push push. Second verse same as the first.
After a bit they realized that she was face up and that's why she was moving slowly. They had already turned my epi down from 10, to 8 to 5... And now it was at a 2. The pitocin contractions were nothing like a natural one. They were no wave of pain, just something that comes suddenly that you try to get through. I pushed unmedicated for just under 3 hours, and it was the most intense thing I have ever done. Truthfully, it was messy, smelly, painful and draining. But never scary.
And then she was here. Elizabeth Marie, 8 pounds, 5 ounces. Perfectly healthy.
I had a 2nd degree tear and horrible vertigo. Some wonderful nurses helped me get to my room. I don't remember it all very well. We nursed, I saw my family. I wouldn't let her off my chest for hours.
I felt much better the day we left the hospital. It's been an amazing 2 weeks. Breastfeeding has been great, she's such a champ. We are so in love with her.
Sorry @Dixon813 I made such an unreliable LB! We did try to space ourselves out
Ladies of PgAL, thank you very much for all the support you have provided to me. I was a wreck my entire pregnancy. I remember thinking that it would get better after we heard the HB, after the anatomy, after I could feel her move, after vday... And it did a little over time. But honestly, I didn't even realize the extent of my anxiety until they placed her on my chest. My first words to her were an elegant "oh, look at your face. I made you alive." Much of the peace I felt I can attribute to seeing the same fears here and sharing in this experience with others. I cannot thank you all enough.
Wow, that was very long. Here are some squish pictures for your time
