Which diaper rash cream works the best and fastest?

My son just woke from his nap with a bad rash. I just gave him an oatmeal bath and did some diaper free time but I can tell it's still really bothering him. I have Desitin creamy ointment but I'm not sure this is going to cut it. Thanks!

We only use Vitamin E ointment. it is 1.99 and comes in little tubes at GNC. Our daycare showed us this stuff and it is amazing! I kid you not I have been using it since he was 4 months old. I threw away all the other tubes I had on hand when I found this stuff. And it smells good, it is also great for dry skin or burns. I love it.

Desitin creamy only has like 12% zinc and I have found that the higher percentage of zinc helps things clear up quicker. DS just got over a diaper rash. I used a combination of Up&Up diaper cream with 40% zinc and thier version of A&D. Another good option is Calmospetine (sp?) it comes in a green and white tub. I normally get it at the Pharmacy at Target.

I would stay away from creams that have less than 40% zinc: Desitin creamy, butt paste and aveeno all have less zinc.

My daughter is really prone to yeast, so I combine Lotrimin and Desitin whenever she gets a rash. Only 2x a day on the Lotrimin though.

This. I have found that the more zinc a product has the better. And you have to read the label...I thought every cream had about the same amount. Target brand has 40% and I love it. And its $2

We use triple paste for now. My sister found that a combination of Aquaphor and Maalox works AMAZING. She saw it on the internet somewhere...someone was calling it AquaLox! I don't know the exact percentage of each, though.

ETA: It was bugging me so I looked it up:

The Girlfriend?s Guide to Baby Gear recommends ?Aqualox,? a recipe used at the Denver Children?s Hospital for severe diaper rash. Combine 6 tablespoons of Aquaphor and an equal amount of regular Maalox in a stand mixer until smooth, and store in a small plastic container with a lid.
