I saw some yobaby yogurt at the store and on the container it said (I think) 6 months & up. I thought dairy products weren't supposed to be given for awhile but not sure. I forgot to ask pedi at our 6 month apt. When did you first give your baby yogurt/cheese/etc?

Re: When did you give yogurt?
It's not that you can't give dairy, it's that it shouldn't replace breastmilk or formula until after 12m as the primary source of nutrition.
I started DD on yogurt just after 8m (but we didn't start solids until 6m, and she wouldn't take a bite of anything until 8m...so we're late bloomers here).
We started yogurt at 7 months and cheese closer to 8 months. Yogurt and cheese are fine, it's cow's milk that you are supposed to avoid until 1 year.
We have done Yo Baby yogurt and regular plain whole fat yogurt mixed wtih purees. She absolutely loves both.
the baby specific foods are fine. I asked my pedi about it... Dairy can be difficult to digest for LOs but the baby specific ones are broken down enough that its ok.
I don't think there is any difference between yo baby and plain whole milk yogurt (except a lot of sugar).
Which one has more sugar, just curious? I buy the plain organic whole milk yougurt. If it has more sugar maybe I will switch to the baby stuff.
I didn't ask about any yogurt but I think you're right. We didn't discuss it too long because its more complicated than just yes or no since some have fruit, etc. Anyways, the yobaby has more sugar. I tried gerber first since my grocery store doesn't even carry yobaby!
Looks like I'm staying with the normal stuff. She likes it just fine without the extra sugar.
If you compare the sugar content of YoBaby and Dannon plain whole milk yogurt, they are about the same. All yogurt has naturally occurring sugars.

The Yobaby has added sugar. It's the second ingredient after milk.
I don't know about Dannon plain yogurt, but I picked up Stonybrook Farms and it has no sugar as ingredients. I'd be surprised if the plain Dannon did.
