ok, here's a real question: about nips...

my nipples seem kind of....not dry, really, but cracked, maybe?  like separated into tiny sections (if that makes any sense).  and sometimes i can pull a little piece of white stuff out (then i get nervous b/c they look like they might bleed).  dh keeps saying 'don't do that!'...i don't do it often, only a few times.  i think it freaks him out, though.

anyone else's nipples in this state?  they're a bit sore already, so i can't imagine how they're going to get. i wonder if this is any indication that they will be dry, cracked and will bleed.

    Our due date is only 2 days from eatchother :)!  And yes, cracked but not dry...I Palmers cocoa butter on them when I get out of the shower...it seems to help.

    Lanolin is your friend (unless you are allergic to wool)

    Just wear nursing pads as it can stain some fabric.

    yep mine are like that too, and sometimes they leak as well....lovely isn't it?

    Yes I have been using this lotion I got at Target by Boots and they aren't itchy or dry anymore.

    that's what i was thinking it probably was.  they're kind of almost like scabs that can be picked, but i don't want to mess with them.  i'm sure i'll give myself an infection if i do.  i'll try the lotion.

    Mine have been like that also, except the white stuff looks like flakes. They hurt as well.

    Mine have been like this for awhile.  I've tried not to worry about them.  I think I would say something to my OB had they bled but they never do.

    This is a perfect description of what mine are like as well. And if you lightly scratch your fingernail across, the tiny little nodules of white stuff can be pulled out. Which I try to avoid, but it's so strange. I assume the colostrum/milk will eventually come from between all those little cracks?

    Same thing, but I think DH would barf if I did it in front of him:-) Anyway doc said they were cracking due to the soap I was using. Only wash with warm water and use vasoline or lanolin. The white stuff is colostrum, or it was on mine anyway. They are getting much better after 1 week. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

    TTC since 6/2003. m/c 9/14/03 8 weeks, 5 chemical pregnancies, mmc 6/04 12 weeks, Michael born sleeping 5/25/05 at 22weeks always our angel, fought ovarian cancer and won, m/c 4/06 5.2 weeks and 7/07 6.6 weeks,Our Miracle baby girl born 4/8/10,mc 12/18/11 at 5.3 weeks, BFP 10/26/12 dating u/s on 11/8/12 showing a strong heartbeat!EDD July 4,2013. RCS on 6/27. Baby boy in NICU for 8 long and scary days before he was able to come home. We are now a happy family of 4

    this! i was experiencing this exact same thing so i asked my dr to check them out and he said this exactly - it is dried colostrum making its way out. may be gross, but also just nice to know your body is preparing to do what it is meant to!

    Ditto! I just started putting some on the evening. Itching went away. I read that it's a good idea to get them good and moistened ahead of time if you're planning on BFing.
