Having a child should require an IQ test

So I am at Safeway, buying 800 boxes of cereal, and as I am walking to my car, I pass this couple who is walking out of the store with about a 2-month-old in a SHORT-SLEEVED ONESIE WITH NO SOCKS OR ANYTHING ELSE. And the dad has it out of the stroller and is HOLDING its feet to keep it from being too cold. They were on foot, too, so they were walking to God knows where. It just broke my heart for the baby -- and made me want to punch the parents.

But here's the kicker: I realized this was the guy in front of me in line and and had forgotten his FOOD STAMPS CARD so he called someone to get the number on his BLACKBERRY. It just drives me nuts to see someone who can't put socks on their tiny baby in March, when it is about 40 degrees out, and is talking on a f&#^%&! expensive cellphone.

Granted, I have a BlackBerry, too, but my kid also has socks.

  • Must be a day for bad parenting today! I was at Costco with my Mom earlier & a kid about 3 years old had climbed up boxes & on top of shelving and was playing on a kids cubby/swing set that was up high probably about 8 feet high. A Costco worker found the kid & was looking for the parents of him. About 5 mins later the Mom came but the kid refused to get down. They had  to get a young guy to climb up there & get him down! So bad on the parents behalf to not supervise the kid!!! Can you imagine if the kid fell?

  • I hate seeing that kind of stuff.

But... how do people like that have fancy phones, and I have a pay-as-you-go that I share with my husband.  lol

At first I was going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, because DS runs super duper hot and I always think people are giving me side-eyes because he's dressed lightly.  Really, the kid sweats non-stop and freaks if he's too hot.

But then I read more and realized they weren't just popping back into their heated car, and/or the BB thing- though they could be borrowing it.  Anyway, doesn't it make you want to hand over your kids' socks/hat/clothes- because I've got a spare set in the diaper bag/car, ya know?

Oh, and that Costco story is scary!  WTF?  Why did it take 5 min for the mom to show up.

Poor choices in how to spend their money.  I know lots of folks who are on public assistance but still manage to have expensive toys.

  • I hate when I see that! I totally agree with the IQ test. It drives me nuts when DH takes R out and forgets socks or a coat. He will say, "Well it was warm and I had a blanket."

Hello, warm to you isn't the same as warm to a baby! He doesn't move around like you and can't keep himself warm like you do. UGH, drives me nuts!

I also hate when I see kids climbing on stuff. My kids try to do that and I have to remind them its not ok. Bad parenting skills on both parties.

Seriously I don't know????  I have family like that, they can't afford to eat but can redo their whole house, have I phones and go to disney land.  For that  matter this said family member is a felon.

I may not have a nice phone but my kid has rocking socks.
