  ditto all the PPs.  and my MIL is like, 99.9% sicilian, and she also calls it sauce....i have no idea where you're getting gravy from, lol.

  i call it whatever kind of sauce it is. tomato basil sauce, marinara sauce, etc. 

  gravy is brown or white and goes on your meat!

  and my italian friends all call sauce sauce.... i've never heard gravy, even from some native italians. very interesting. perhaps it's a regional thing.

  My sisters longtime boyfriend's family is very traditional Italian and they have whats called "Sunday Gravy" every week for dinner and it is spaghetti and meatballs so I suppose if you're Italian its called gravy!

  I'm Italian and my family calls it sauce.  However, I have plenty of friends who call it gravy, particulary their family's Sunday night sauce with all the extra meat, etc.

  My Italian friends call it gravy.  I call it sauce.  It's kinda like how some people in the U.S. call Pepsi/Coke/etc. soda while others call it pop.  No right or wrong answer IMHO.

  When referring to what I put on pasta it's called sauce because I'm not Italian & what I put on it is sauce. If I was Italian & was making true "Gravy" I'd call it gravy. So I think that you are right & so is your DH.

  Sauce.  Around here the only gravies are peppered cream gravy that goes on chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes, or brown gravy which is like au jus but has flour and cornstarch mixed in and is also served on meat and potatoes.
