High-Risk Pregnancy

Contrax ?

I've been laying on my left side most of the day...and like clockwork, every hour, my heart starts racing and I get short of breath and then my tummy tightens for about a minute.

I haven't had more than 3 in hour, and they're not painful- I've benn drinking a lot of h20 and peeing like crazy...

I have an apt. tom. should I just wait till then?

Re: Contrax ?

  • My OB said as long as I was not having 4 or more in an hour I was okay. Are they increasing in intensity or getting more painful? I was having contractions on Wednesday when my water broke early but they were not increasing in intensity or very painful so they just let them go and eventually they did stop.

I would say as long as they aren't getting more frequent or more painful you could wait.

  • You are fine to wait.  My doctor doesn't want to hear from me unless I have 6 an hour for two hours.  I have called him for less, but each time he tells me not to worry and not to go in.  Unless they become painful or you have more, you should be fine.  I'm having a bunch tonight, too.

  • Thanks ladies, they're not painful and are not increasing- so I should be good...Do you guys get the heart racing and hot feeling too?
  • You should be fine. I am allowed 4 in an hour but most places say 6 and as long as they are not getting stronger you are good.  My heart starts racing and i get short of breath and do sometimes get really hot.  My OB says with twins you are going to contract. No getting around it.

  • Thanks Nikki- good to see you're still baking!!!
  • I have had a lot of contrax woth both long-term pregnancies. I never had heart racing and shortness of breath though. Not even during labor. Could you be getting nervous when you get them? Try your breathing techniques for labor when you get them and see if that helps your heartrate and shortness of breath. I would let your OB know about the associated symptoms if they don't go away with your breathing techniques though...just to be safe.
