2nd Trimester

Gulcose Test

Ok its my turn to take the test in the morning......SO not looking forward to it. I'm really kinda worried about it. I think everything is going to be ok and I'll pass but you know you always have that thought in the back of your mind about it. I know you have to drink that stuff and sit there and wait an hour then do labs right? there is nothing else to it right? ugh its so not nice to tell a pregnant person they can't eat. then after the test I have to go to work. yuck! oh well

Re: Gulcose Test

  • Honestly I'd call off work tomorrow.

I spent the entire day sleeping and in a foggy state.  I couldn't even drive.  That juice effed me up, and that is pretty normal.

  • I'm with you. Mine's on Tuesday. SO not looking forward to it.
  • I had mine and it was no big deal. I felt fine.
  • I did mine friday.  Drinking the stuff actually wasn't that bad, i was really tired that day though.  Not sure if the two were related or not. Good Luck!
  • i have heard both.....work knows that I'm having it done so if I end up having to call in I just hope they will understand......sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.
  • I had to take mine early because of PCOS - so I was only 13 weeks. I had it this past Tuesday and was so nervous about it. But it really wasn't a big deal at all. I called my DR's office and they said just not to eat anything 2 hours ahead of time (I was really worried about not eating anything at all before coming). I got the orange flavored variety and it really wasn't bad - pretty sweet, but basically tasted like an orange soda. They told me I could take about 5 minutes to drink it, but I wanted to get it over with - so I took about 3 swallows and was done. They said I could drink water only in the hour I had to wait, so I drank lots of it. I think that really helped to keep the jitters down - so I highly recommend that. My DR told me to be prepared to fail, but I passed with flying colors. It really wasn't even 1/2 as bad as I thought it would be. Just don't eat anything with sugar about 24 hours ahead of time, and then drink lots of water and you'll be fine. My hubby was with me (just in case I didn't feel well enough to drive) - but I was fine and could have driven if I had needed to. GL!
  • It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  My office had the option of lemon lime or orange.  I chose the lemon lime and it wasn't bad at all...tasted like Sprite to me.

I'd bring something small to eat after it's over until you can eat some breakfast.  I was really hungry and kind of shaky.

I was fine to go back to work afterwards but did end up with a bit of a headache.  Luckily, I had some tylenol with me.

    GL!

  • Perhaps every office has different instructions. My OB recommends that you eat breakfast before hand, but to avoid a lot of carbohydrates or sugar.

Same here.  I was specifically told not to fast.  The nurse said don't eat pasta or any other "carb-heavy" dinner the night before and have a small breakfast.  Mine is this Thursday.
